What problems did you have specifically?

> Could anyone please recommend me some working Raid-controllers ?

The biggest problem that I can see offhand is that most cards' BIOS
is x86 specific, so you cannot manage RAID arrays at boot time like
you would on a peecee. Also, there is no RAID management software
for PPC Linux (like "dptutil" on Sun) that would allow you to control
the arrays for any such cards from the OS. At least none that I am
aware of (which may not be the whole truth, of course).

I don't see a workaround.

DPT Smartraid:
PPC Linux crashed when loading the module mod_i2o.

AMI MegaRAID:
The card was not visible at all. The system behaved as like the card
was not inserted at all.

ICP GDT 6118 RP
Could not get driver working but I only tested very little this one.

BTW: I uses PPC Linux on a Pegasos computer. http://www.genesi.lu/

I hope to get SCSI RAID working somehow. :-)
Are there raid-cards which are known to work on any PPC-computer/Mac ?

Cheers
Gunnar

I believe you mean "dpt_i2o".

Which kernel version? Did you try any other versions?

How did Linux crash? Did you get a kernel panic? If so, did you
report it to kernel developers?

I have to ask whether you inserted it properly. I am not the world's
foremost PCI expert (rather the opposite!) but I would expect lspci
output to show the presence of the card whether or not any software
was able to support it.

Again, the specific error messages you received would be useful.

> I hope to get SCSI RAID working somehow. :-)

Did you give any thought to the issue that even if you get the card
working, you may not be able to set up any arrays because of the
inability to run the card's BIOS and lack of utilities in the OS?

Yes.

I tried with 2.4.25 2.6.4 and 2.6.8

Yes, the module segfaults.

You are right I will report it.

OT: tibook keeps making clunk sound

my powerbook g4 keeps making a clunking sound. this happens in macosx
and ydl. it doesn't stop until after all processes are stopped and the
machine turns off. it usually starts after i access the internet with
browser or mail. <but then i am usually on the net when using the
machine > dsl>. i replaced the hd once already and it stopped for a
while. i have searched high and low on internet and have yet to find any
solution. anybelly here know what to do about it or what could be the
cause of it?

out of the question...another new hd would be a hardship on me.

i did the obvious and rebooted the machine with no cable and it is still
making a noise like a stiff zipper grinding its' teeth.

Re: OT: tibook keeps making clunk sound

Your hard drive is going bad. Thats about the only thing that would
"click" in the system unless you put a baseball card on your fan.

RE: OT: tibook keeps making clunk sound

Are you sure it's the hard drive and not a bad fan? I've got a fan that
makes a similar 'zipper grinding it's teeth' sound. It doesn't happen
all the time, but it's loud when it does.

yes, it is going bad, but it is only a few months old and the first one
took over a year to do this. the question is why would 2 of 'em do it?
from what i read apple knows it happens but i can not find any info on
the reason...and the remedy
