Can I hide default main entries (Schedule, Channels, Timers)?

Hi!

Is there a way to hide some of the default main menu entries of VDR?
I have made a replay-only-client, which has no DVB-device, thus no
channels and no timers. This client needs only "Recordings" and "Setup".
I'd like to hide the main menu entries "Schedule", "Channels" and
"Timers".

Stephan.

IIRC (my VDR isn't running ATM) you can do this with the submenu-plugin.

The data retrieved through the section filters is repeated frequently
(like EPG data, channel data etc.), so if a packet is lost here it doesn't
really matter that much. If you do get these errors a lot, though, it might
be an indicator of other problems (bad reception, too much load etc.)

Thanks for this hint, but is there a solution without patching VDR?
(submenu-plugin can only be compiled after patching VDR.)

Sky Freesat and VDR

As I've just been told that the scaffolding currently surrounding the
communal aerial in my neighbourhood will be up for months, I'm looking
at purchasing a DVB-S card. The terrestrial analogue reception is just
terrible, so much that my dvb-t cards keep choking and dying.

As I'm in the UK, and have a shared satellite dish I've been
interested in using the Sky Freesat service. I've read on avforums
that people have managed to get their freesat and even paytv cards
working with TT T3200S cards + CI card + CAM. Unfortunately they're
all using Windows MCE and the information is heavily windows specific.

As I've no interest in HDTV (or windows), I was hoping to go for a
cheaper card. Does anyone using VDR in the UK currently have this
setup working? Would you care to mention the hardware you have?

I'd only be looking for the full freesat channel line-up, specifically
all the freeview channels I currently can't see! :-) I won't be
subscribing to Sky Tv.

One major issue is I don't have an extra coax cable heading to my vdr
server. I was planning on installing the dvb-s card in my client and
using another vdr server working in conjunction with the 'master'.
Installing another cable will mean digging up 25m of earth and
shifting some paving slabs :-/

Principally I'd like the whole setup to seem transparent in that I can
record from the 2 dvb-t cards or the dvb-s card using the same epg,
and shared recordings folders etc.
Is this feasible? This is secondary to just getting a proper digital
tv service working in our living room.

Serious bug? VDR v1.4.4 deletes recordings

Hi,

For some reason VDR has decided to remove recordings. I've been
suspecting this for some time but now I'm sure. I've been recording Tomi
Traktori (a serie for kids) and there used to way more recordings that
single page. Now only single page and all recordings in 2007 have been
deleted.

There is no indication in log files that VDR had removed these
recordings (although I'm not 100% whether there was log entry because
logs data back only to 13th of May).

What could be the reason for this and how to prevent this? There have
been over 40h of free space on the disk so that is not the reason.

Re: Serious bug? VDR v1.4.4 deletes recordings

Yes, VDR remove recordings, depending on its priority and lifetime
value. See MANUAL: a recording will last at least the number of days
specified in "LIFETIME" before it is deleted because another recording
with a higher priority needs the diskspace. Set LIFETIME to 99 and it
will stay until you delete it manually.

Re: Serious bug? VDR v1.4.4 deletes recordings

Cannot verify that these deleted recordings were using 99 as lifetime
but all remaining recordings do have it set as 99. And I don't recall
changing this setting in autotimer ever (default in my case is 99).
