I also switched from dxr3 to softdevice with a matrox G450 about 10
months ago.

For me the G450 has been a lot more stable. With the dxr3 I had
crashes, OSD failures etc etc. I was upgrading my vdr dxr3plugin
version every week or so hoping things would improve.

Reading the lists it would seem that the dxr3 solution has improved:
perhaps I jumped ship just a bit early... Even if this is so I am still
glad I converted.

Regardless, IMHO softplay makes softdevice a superior solution.

My old system used to be a 1 GHz Athlon with a dxr3 in it and it was rock
solid most of the time. The system did sometimes fail to boot but I
eventually tracked that down to a dodgy PSU. I changed this for my
current Via Epia system because the Athlon made lots of noise!

You might want to try "xineliboutput" -- it's a plugin that includes
network functionality WITHOUT having to apply any patches to
xine/xinelib/xineui!

You add any clients that need access to the svdrphosts.conf file . The
package includes standalone front-end programs, so you don't have to use
Xine-UI if you don't want to (make frontends on the frontend machine).

You'll probably have to re-compile xinelib without any patches, but that
shouldn't be a big deal.

Here's the latest version:

http://users.tkk.fi/~phintuka/vdr/vdr-xineliboutput/vdr-xineliboutput-0.99rc2.tgz

It should work on AMD64, though I only have a 32-bit machine.

Regards,
C.

G450 softdevice

I have been reading the 'TV-out, softdevice' thread and it appears
there are users out there happy with their G450 + softdevice setup.
I have a G450 but have been put off using it with VDR because
information on how to get this combination to work on the net is
poor. Googling gives information that is very old. Can anyone
provide a concise howto describing everything required to set up
a G450 head2 rgb-scart with softdevice on a recent 2.6.x kernel?

I tried that also, and though I had some problems with it (there were a
lot of compiler warnings, of which I fixed some obvious x86_64
portability issues), managed to get the video at some point. There was
no remote control, however. Is that supported by xineliboutput?

Have you looked at the TV-out info on the softdevice web page:
http://softdevice.berlios.de/#TV-Out

It was a while ago that I set my G450 up but I think it was pretty
straightforward. Here's hoping that someone will correct me here!

One thing I _can't_ remember is whether the stock matroxfb in the kernel
source works or whether it needs replacing with a different version
(maybe someone else can enlighten us on this!). You will need a couple of
patches which are to be found in the DirectFB source:

matroxfb-g400-clock-2.6.6.patch.bz2 (not quite sure what this one does)
matroxfb-full-memory-linux-2.6.6.patch.bz2 (this lets you use all of the
RAM literally changes a couple of lines)

It looks like the matroxfb-vsync-irq patch has been included in the stock
kernel so isn't needed now.

I made a component RGB cable from the schematics at:
http://forum.matrox.com/mga/viewforum.php?f=52&sid=a1c50e38759f99f96d4bf184cfef9c78
(pretty sure it was the "Scart-RGB cable for the Millennium G450" one
which I bodged from a lead pinched off an old monitor.

Apart from that, I think I just built CVS DirectFB, CVS softdevice and it
all just worked, apart from I was seeing lots of horizontal lines when
scaling to a 4:3 TV (fixed by setting softdevice to 16:9 and setting my
TV to 16:9 or 4:3 as needed!), although I think that has been resolved
now.

As I mentioned in a previous posting it was working perfectly until I
updated softdevice a few weeks back. Now the A-V sync sometimes wanders
and interlaced streams aren't always smooth. Yet to track down the cause
of this...

Cheers,

Laz

It's probably the non-MMX scaler function that was introduced in order
to properly scale the interlaced fields separately, to avoid distortions
when the vertical resolution changes. I posted my findings about that
on the softdevice list a couple of weeks ago.

osd is ugly compared to vdr-xine.
remote is just a forward of lirc commands (i haven't use it since it
useless in my configuration)

That would be nice to have ONE xine plugin with all the features of
vdr-xine and xineliboutput.
I guess the result would be vdr-xine (with no patching required +
network support)
plus streamdev vtp support it would be even nicer ! i could watch
several channels from different transponder at the same time on
different computers :)
(sorry i'm repeating myself :))

The Xine developers won't add vdr-xine support to the main codeline?  It certainly would be easier then having to re-compile xine.

Cannot compile following plugins: streamdev tvonscreen

Hi,

I have problems with compiling some plugins for vdr 1.4.0-2.

streamdev
tvonscreen
timeline (not very important)

streamdev compiling fails at:
-----------------------------
../../../include/vdr/dvbsub.h: In member function `bool
   cStreamdevLiveStreamer::SetChannel(const cChannel*, eStreamType, int,
const
   cDevice*)':
../../../include/vdr/dvbsub.h:17: error: `int
   cDvbSubtitlesRecording::GetPidByChannel(int, const cChannel*, int)' is
   private
server/livestreamer.c:115: error: within this context
../../../include/vdr/dvbsub.h:17: error: `int
   cDvbSubtitlesRecording::GetPidByChannel(int, const cChannel*, int)' is
   private
------------------------------

Version: from cvs 2006-05-31 (tried also 2006-04-24)
Patch1: vdr-streamdev-cvs-20060424-dvbsubtitles.diff (Rolf)
Patch2: vdr-plugin-streamdev_0.3.1+cvs20050522-20.diff (e-tobi)

Not both patches were applied at the same time. Patch2 gave the best
result that failed on error above.

Is there a patch available to fix this problem? Or better yet, is there
a new version of streamdev plugin, which already compiles and works with
v1.4.0-2?

tvonscreen compiling fails at:
------------------------------
agazine.c: In constructor `magazine::magazine(cPlugin*)':
magazine.c:116: error: `cDevice' undeclared (first use this function)
magazine.c:116: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once for

... (lot of errors)
------------------------------

Version: vdr-tvonscreen-0.7.0.tar.gz
Patch: vdr-plugin-tvonscreen_0.7.0-16.diff (e-tobi)

Proper patch available yet for this? Or maybe newer version that is
compatible with 1.4.0-2?

timeline compiling fails at:
----------------------------
checkerOsd.c: In member function `void checkerOsd::genLines(int, long int)':
checkerOsd.c:274: error: no matching function for call to `cTimer::PrintDay(
   time_t)'

   time_t)'
../../../include/vdr/timers.h:96: error: candidates are: static cString
   cTimer::PrintDay(long int, int)
----------------------------

Version: vdr-timeline-0.9.0.tar.gz
Patch: vdr-plugin-timeline_0.9.0-21.diff (e-tobi)

Manually added missing include to checkerOsd.h (#include <vdr/device.h>).

Proper patch available yet for this? Or maybe newer version that is
compatible with 1.4.0-2?

text2skin also required some additional patching (APIVERSION). Would be
great if the author would make a new release for 1.4.0 version.
