The problem is i need a list of packages the wiki is not even showing it all
correct now ... and no at no time when i was working on it was it ever based
on Ubuntu but Debian itself. there are sevral resons for this one is there
requirments verses ours ... read the past wiki and dscucsions on this ....
At this time i only have weekend <short part lol> to work on this but i can
do the full iso and bring it up to date. i have also been working on a
school linux project that is in our <user linux> dirrection tell me what you
all think i can put it together and post for download.

Appreciation of UserLinux and which way to move on...

Hello UserLinux people this is Lee McKusick,

UserLinux is a wonderful distribution idea. However, for use in a
business setting, I see signs that Fedora has a strong advantage
(because it makes updating packages harder). For a personal desktop,
Ubuntu has a lot of things that work, and I use it now.

Over the last year, I had a real Linux based job (as a website monitor,
checking the operation of a personal ads website with offices in Palo
Alto California).

This employer favored Fedora for the business Linux desktop. Fedora,
with simple RPM packages, prevents users from updating or changing the
installation. That was helpful for me because it ensured no other
monitor (on the other two shifts) messed with my desktop or email.

Over that same 15 month period, I very reluctantly moved to Ubuntu
because I need USB and camera device support.

Migrating to Ubuntu was a lot of aggravation. I am approaching 60, and
with 15 years running Linux it is just a drag to be reminded how many
low level things I have forgotten how to do. Like how do you make "man
-t" print pages with page numbers? Plus, it is a drag to lose email
filters, email address books, and bookmark files and little ticky tacky
Perl and Python projects when I relocate to a new /home.

Yes, I joined UserLinux because of the plan to offer a limited
selection of Debian applications to make straightforward business
desktop.

Artwork package?

Hi

Am I the only one still subscribed here

Is there any reason why the artwork package is i386 only? Can we make
it arch independent instead or failing that port it to amd64/powerpc and
any other popular ports.

Cheers,

Marketing team leader position open

Hello all.

I have removed myself from UserLinux marketing team
leader position. Even if this project came back to
life, I don't have the time to live up to the
responsibilities these days.

against canonical

Before sucking up to Canonical, folks ought to read the last week or
two worth of traffic on the gnu-arch-users mailing list.

Linuxworld

Sorry to be so long off the list, I've been bogged down in travel and stuff.

Yes, we will participate in the DCC announcement at Linuxworld. DCC
incorporates some of the Userlinux concepts, and there is no reason we
would not want to encourage the effort. It does not detract from our own
effort, and the DCC folks (OK, mostly Ian) reached out to us.

We will also announce and distribute a release at LinuxWorld. Which
means I have busy typing fingers today.

    Thanks

Postfix vs. Exim

Hello guys,

I've been asking myself this question lately, why we chose Postfix over
Exim 4?.

It seems we have chosen Postfix over Exim without giving it too much
thought. Now another problem seems to be that Ubuntu guys have followed
our steps, I can't find any rationale in the Ubuntu site that states why
they have chosen Postfix instead of Exim in their distro, so I assume
they just might have done it because we did.

If what I'm supposing is true, then what's the point of keeping Postfix
over Exim on both UserLinux and Ubuntu?.
