Are you following some published HOWTO for starting networking on UML?
If not, you might look at
http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/network.html

[uml-user] How do i compile my module for UML kernel image

Hi,
I have my kernel version "2.6.25.11-0.1-default" I compiled my module on the host system and loaded on with the UML kernel image 2.6.24-rc7-dirty which is available in the UML home page.

I get a version magic error. How should i solve it? How can i compile my module to the lower version(2.6.24-rc7).

I also tried compiling the UML from the scratch. I could build the kernel image with my opensuse11 box.
But i could not get a proper working file system. I get segfault saying

[42949373.360000] VFS: Cannot open root device "./FedoraCore5-x86-root_fs" or unknown-block(0,0)
[42949373.360000] Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:

Thanks,
  -Kalyan

[uml-user] UML Utilities Build Problem

Hi,

The build of the latest UML utilities fails when trying to build uml-mount
because the local "fuse" directory is missing. All other utils build fine.

[uml-user] Interrupts

Hi All

I want to be able to generate an external event to the UML (eg. like a signal, message, etc) from the host, so that it triggers a UML drivers's interrupt handler to run. So I would like to know what way I could do that. My objective is that in a real hardware we have interrupts for detecting some hardware conditions. For example a new line board has been plugged. I would assume this can be done similar as the console driver is working accepting input from the uml_mconsole utility. Pls let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks

David

[uml-user] Too slow ...

Hi!

I am using UML for a long time. It always took some time to boot.

But now, after moving to 2.6.25 kernel it takes no less than 15 minutes
to boot!!!
In this time, my laptop (4Gb RAM Intel core duo 2.4GHz) does not make
any relevant use of the CPU and there is almost no hd accesses!!!

What could be wrong?

Thanks for any help.

Hello,

Are you using the skas4 patch?
If not, it is possible to wait a little bit more to boot, but not up
to 15 minutes.

Regards,

Flavio

No. I think it is not available for 2.6.25. I also wasn't using it
before and it worked, slow but acceptable slow. But now ...

It's a lot strange. The kernel works perfectly except everything is too
too slow!

There must be something wrong with this kernel and UML. Who could help
with this? Kernel ppl?

Re: [uml-user] howto make system cluster with UML

I would suggest you to read the user mode linux book by Jeff which includes an example of cluster configuration by the end of the book(chapter 12). It will tell you what utilities you may need.
