It 'Worked For Me' without sudo and put a directory in my /home/cybe
at /.cache/apt-file containing all the gzipped files it downloaded.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx
My version of Evolution is 2.28.3

I went to the link you provided but have no clue what to do once I get
there. It looks like there is a version 2.32.2-0ubuntu3~maverick1 for
the i386.

There is a Packages, Packages.bz2 and a Packages.gz both at about 11K

I don't know what to do with it. I went to the
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware

Page and did not recognize any of the formats to use for updating this.

I also went to the Evolution page
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Evolution
Which had no help.

There was a link to:
http://projects.gnome.org/evolution/
I was able to download evolution-2.32.2.tar.bz2 but I do not know what
to do with that file either and I don't know if it is for a i386 or not.

There is not an apt-get command to update me to the latest version?

Why doesn't evolution update when update manager runs? It seems to
update everything else.

Why is this so difficult?

11.04 32-bit to 64-bit

Hi folks
Currently I'm enjoying Alpha of the above and will move to Beta-1 this weekend.
I running 32-bit now but wish to install 64. My Sony is 64 and has a max ram of 2 gig. So 2 questions

1. Would I really gain much by moving to 64-bit?

2. Are there about as many packages for 64 as there are for 32? If not, ought the 32 bit packages run under the 64
bit install?

Tia!

I think that explains it. I only tried on Lucid and not Maverick.

When grub prompt appears type and enter after each command
set root=(hd0,x)
linux (hd0,x)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-7-generic root=/dev/sdax ro single
initrd (hd0,x)/boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-7-generic
boot

Notes:
o change the 'x''s of (hd0,x) and /dev/sdax to the partition number
if sdb, then (hd1,x) and /dev/sdbx
o assume your partition is not in btrfs format and /boot is in /
   otherwise amend accordingly
o if unsure of partition, replace with

search --set=root -f /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-7-generic
linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-7-generic root=/dev/sdax ro single
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-7-generic
boot

When booted to recovery console,
repair
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
boot normal

Regards - Goh Lip

ps: I do not have problem installing, though using kubuntu 64 bit.
Also have no problem booting up the iso file but need to install with
physical cd.

Sorry, I mean at grub prompt find the partition by
grub> search -f /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-7-generic

then knowing the 'x' in /dev/sdax,

search --set=root -f /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-7-generic
linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-7-generic root=/dev/sdax ro single
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-7-generic
boot

Well, a new, "untouched by human hands", DVDRW (a Pioneer DDVR-118)
installed today and I burnt a DVD -R DL. Same result as I mentioned for
discs #5 & #6 above: "Unable to fixate the disk" :-( . So, it's not the
device but either k3b or some Ubuntu upgrade which was put thru in the
last 2 weeks. Back to the drawing-board.

Re: 11.04 32-bit to 64-bit

1) 2 Gig of RAM means no significant improvement over usage of RAM, that would be only if you had more than 3 Gigs.
2) Applications generally run faster on 64-bit*.
3) You can "run" most 32-bit programs if you install the ia32-libs package. But you cant "install" them the normal way though.

*flash might be a bit of a pain, but I think adobe guys provide a preview-release which should work just fine. You can always use d 32-bit flash plugin if you have nspluginwrapper installed.
