games?

I have not been able to run any off the games I have installed on the software center. I am running Ubuntu 9.10. I may need to reinstall the graphics card I really don't know computers well. My pc is a hp Pavilion Slimline s3020n PC. graphics powered  nvidia. The screen just slowly turns white when I try to run a game and I have to turn it off when that happens to get it to work again.

Please give a link to your torrent file. I'll try to download it, then you
will have confirmation.

Could be, I’ve seen the ribbon cables to IDE disks cause lock ups. I’d
moved everything but the Mobo and cables to another machine to test, so
was about to blame the Mobo until I tried the cables as well.
As several people are suffering this could it be the same/similar
hardware. Perhaps if everybody, who suffers this problem, could list
their MOBO, CPU, Video card, etc. a common factor might appear.

Never mind, I think that I found it:

Ebook Readers

I am considering getting an ebook reader. I have noticed that nearly
all of them advertise themselves as being "compatible with PC and Mac".
The software that I have found for downloading public domain books is
also "PC version" and "Mac Version".

Does anyone download books to an Ubuntu system and then load them onto
an ebook reader? Is any particular ebook reader reccommended? I would
hate to fork over more than $200 for one and then find out that I
couldn't use it.

Thanks,
John

Try to install GRUB to the Ubuntu partition rather than the disk MBR.

I have not done it myself, but since the Mac EFI is trying to load a loader from there it should load from there.
The option is one of the advanced options, don't remember on which menu.

Re: UBUNTU DIRECTIONS

jesse stephen wrote:

Many of the documentation files for Ubuntu are already on your hard
drive. Have a look through your /usr/share/docs folder for html and pdf
help files for all of your programs and Ubuntu itself including the
kernel references.

Many more docs are installable with Synaptic Package Manager, so have a
look there as well.

For a good list of what I think are the core manuals to install, and
their installed locations have a look here -

Karmic: Mounts with SMB:// not showing up in all nautilus/file manager windows

I did some searching and couldn't find anything that addressed this, so here goes:

I usually mount shares on other local computers, both windows and linux flavors, by entering "smb://192.168.0.5" to mount them and get to them. In 9.04 when I did this it would pop on my desktop as well as in nautilus and such. Now in karmic it is appearing in the "Places" area of nautilus as well as my desktop like it used to, but the only thing different is when I go to select a download location with something like downthemall it is not seeing the mount in the links to the left. I can't find it anywhere so that I can do a direct dump to the networked computer.

I am on a clean install of 9.10 Ubuntu using gnome and have had very few other problems with karmic, anyone have an idea of what changed or if this is a known issue?

Thank you for your help,
