Hoary discussion [Was: Why Hoary and why *now*?]

We decided to wait and see how it turns out. If there's way too much
hoary discussion here, or the -devel list is overrun with hoary user
questions, we may make a testers list. Let's see how it goes. :-)

Thanks,

You can often find more information by searching for an existing bug report:

Thanks very much - this is the kind of answer I was looking for :)
Makes sense now.

I suspect this is why another utility I used to use a lot seems to act
weird now - takes forever to start, seems to freeze, et cetera:
usbview. It's handy to see what's connected to usb, but doesn't act
"right" in ubuntu, compared to libranet.

Thanks for taking the time to explain things!

Re: network-admin not working for my dialup

I have appended this to bug #2352 at
https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2352

Would I be right in assuming that no ubuntu developers have dialup and
so can't test these things? If there I'd like to correspond because it
seems there are a few other things that may need ironing out.

I also had to correct my illiteracy. Now has no K.

Aterm loses transparency when resized

Hi there,

I have just upgraded ubuntu and have found that aterm now loses
transparency when the window is resized. Since aterm is in the universe
repo i have not been able to file a bug but since the problem was caused
by updating the system I thought that I would ask here for some help!
Can anyone help me out? I'd appreciate it a lot.

many thanks, Matt

Read /var/log/syslog and see if the timing corresponds to your DHCP release
being renewed. That could provide a clue.

mounting ntfs, and sharing files in a windows network

hello there
salutations

well
no problems in the system so far
but now I have another problem
I want to share some files in a windows network,
the campus at my school you know, so
I installed samba and nfs
but I can find a way of finding how to share a
directory
another thing I can see other machines and files but
I can not share my files :(

The other problem is I know you already have told
about this, how to mount and ntfs files and give
permission to non root to write on the pwrtititon.

Finally, my keyboard is spanish, but I can not
configure it at all, the main symbols are ok, but I
can not find the way to use french accents ;(

Thanks guys.

Add something like this to the end of /etc/samba/smb.conf
Ignore stuff after the #

[ShareName]
comment = #Blah
path = #location on YOUR computer of the share
browsable = yes #Useful:)
browseable = yes #Not sure which spell is used
public = yes #Show people the share in your listings
writable = no #Stop people from changing or deleting your files!

You can also put in to restrict the share to certain users(for each
share definition):
valid users = user1 user2

That's what happens when you follow forum instructions without
understanding them. ;-)

Yup, that is to be expected.

Can anyone point us to a better (more proper) way to disable IPV6?
