Information about work flow between Launchpad projects and Rosetta translations

Hi there,

I have recently added my project BillReminder,
launchpad.net/billreminder, to have the translations done via Rosetta. I
have also set it up so that the source code is pulled from its SVN repo
so people can browse it or create their own branch... so far, so good.

My questions are:

1. If I make a change to the message catalog (*.pot) of my project in
its own repository (i.e. not bzr), will the message catalog stored in
Rosetta be automatically updated with it once the code is synced?

2. If the answer for the question above is 'True', will then all
existing translations be merged against the newer message catalog?

Thanks in advance for the reply,

Translating soundKonverter

Hello!, my name is Sergio García Villalonga and I am writing you to
get some information about how to translate Kubuntu applications. In
this case, the one I want to translate is soundKonverter, which
nowadays is only available in English. I speak, read and write English
fluently and I am a Spanish and Catalan speaker, so I could translate
it to those languages without any problem.

Thank you very much indeed.

Ubuntu Gutsy translations now open!

Hello,

We've got three pieces of excellent news about Ubuntu translations in
Launchpad:

1. Gutsy translations are now open.
2. The official repositories will feature daily language pack updates.
3. Translations for future Ubuntu releases will open early.

You can start work on Gutsy translations straight away at:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/gutsy/+translations

Daily language pack updates
----------------------------

Throughout Gutsy's development, the Ubuntu team aims to provide daily
language pack updates through the official repositories. Gutsy users
will receive these daily updates as standard.

Daily updates will be a great way for Ubuntu translators to see their
work in place almost straight away. Once Gutsy is released as Ubuntu
7.10, its official language pack updates will be sent once a month.

Opening translations early in the release cycle
------------------------------------------------

Starting with Gutsy, we will open translations for each Ubuntu release
as soon as the Ubuntu distro team is ready.

In the past, we had to take Launchpad offline in order to import the
translation files for each new Ubuntu release. Finding a suitable time
to take Launchpad offline led to a delay in opening the translations.
Thanks to some great work from the Translations team, we can now import
translation files without taking Launchpad offline.

This is fantastic news for everyone working on Ubuntu translations!

If you have any comments, suggestions or questions please email me
directly or join us on the launchpad-users mailing list:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/launchpad-users

Thanks!

rosetta-users closes on 22 June 2007

Hello,

rosetta-users list closing on 22 June 2007
-------------------------------------------

With a tear in my eye, I have to tell you that rosetta-users will close
on 22 June 2007.

But it's not bad news! Discussion of Launchpad Translations - previously
Rosetta - will continue on the launchpad-users list.

Back in September 2004, when we opened Rosetta for testing, the rest of
Launchpad was still some way off. So, we created the rosetta-users list.
Since Launchpad's official launch, more and more discussion has moved to
the launchpad-users list.

Having two separate lists splits discussion and may be confusing,
particularly as we no longer use the Rosetta name.

If you haven't already, please join us on the launchpad-users list. You
can subscribe at:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/launchpad-users

The rosetta-users archive will remain online but from 22 June we will no
longer accept new postings. To avoid wasting people's time, we have
already closed the list to new subscribers.

Thanks to everyone who has used rosetta-users. We look forward to seeing
you on launchpad-users!

Translations

Hi there!

I'm a Spanish-Mexican new Linux user and would be glad to collaborate
with the whole platform through translations, which are in fact part of
my professional activities. That's why I just joined Launchpad and
signed in for a new account there, after being directed through
SounKonverter, the sound formatting program.

The reason of my letter is that this program is not available in
Spanish, I guess, though I got the following message from Launchpad:

"feisty soundkonverter does not have any strings to be translated
through Launchpad. If you think this is incorrect, please send an email
to the Rosetta mailing list or file a bug in our bug tracking system so
we can look into the problem. Thanks. "

If that is the case and the program is already available in Spanish or
this version cannot be translated, alright, but if it does need a
translation, don't hesitate to contact me. That's it, regards and bye

Nico

Krusader translation into French

Dear,

I’m using Windows Commander (Total Commander) for a long time under Windows.

Since 3 months I’m using Ubuntu and I was looking for a similar program under Linux.

Christian Ghisler (developper of Total Commander) recommanded me Krusader.

I installed Krusader in Unbutu 7.04 and saw that the program was partially translated

into French. Because I know Total Commander in French and I know very well French

I propose to help the translation of Krusader into French.

Let me know how I can help …  I just subscribe a Lauchpad account but there is

« No translatable templates available » for Krusader. How can I translate then ?

Best Regards,

Stefan Robert
