Dipro fair in Antwerp 09/05 - call for volunteers

Hi to all (especially Antwerp area),

Next Sunday (9/5), Ubuntu-be will be present in the Dipro computer fair (Antwerp Expo) with a improved booth where we will present the new version 10.04 LTS to the public.

The team is not yet complete and we need more volunteers.

No experience is required, a contagious enthusiasm should be enough !

If you have the possibility to help the team for a few hours, please let it us know as soon as possible ! (email of wiki)

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Antwerpen_2010-05-09

Regards
----

(email of wiki)

Website downtime

Hi,

As many may have noticed, the Ubuntu-be.org website went down last
Friday. It happened because Cedric's server was shut down by its
provider after it was hacked. The server hosted several other site and
Cedric wasn't able to restore ubuntu-be.org immediatly because of
issues with the DNS configuration procedure. We weren't able to work
on the issue until Sunday.

While searching for an emergency hosting for our site, I received an
offer form the FSF France to provide an virtual server on it's
infrastructure for free. I spend some time on Sunday working with a
FSF France member to get the server up and running. In the meantime,
the DNS was updated through JanC who contacted the right person. DNS
change takes time to propagate but by Sunday 23h, the server was able
to serve requests and redirect them to a temporary page on the wiki.
Yesterday I fully restored the main website and it should be all fine
by now.

http://map.ubuntu-be.org is not restored and still unreachable. I
don't plan to restore the old site. Instead I plan to install the new
support point module on the main site. Once it's done, requests on
http://map.ubuntu-be.org will get redirected to it's entry page.

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid CDs arrived

Hello all,

The LoCo pack of Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid CDs has just arrived here (in
Bruges). If anybody needs some CDs for e.g. a release party, we can see
how we can best get them there.

Re: [Fwd: [Ayatana] Bluetooth: What do you use it for? (design research)]

Hello,

Sorry for the late answer, I was on holyday.
I would love to use BlueTooth for a Logitech mouse, but could not make it work.
Ubuntu is the only OS I use.

Is not all that great, each dongle comes with its own buggy firmware and memory hogging programs that show BT animations but don't actueally work all that well. On Windows I cannot get the keyboard, wacom and mouse working at the same time - under Ubunut I can. Advantage of Windows is that devices reconnect automatically once you get them working, in Ubuntu I often have to pair them again to be able to find them. Hope that helps. RBE

hi

> 1. What kinds of Bluetooth device do you use with Ubuntu?
Built-in bluetooth device in MSI laptop.
Nokia E61
Apple alu BT keyboard
Logitech BT mouse.
Wacom BT tablet

>
> 2. Do you use the Bluetooth menu in the panel? If so, what for, and

I use the BT icon in the systray the most, to activate devices etc.

Well, we discussed some stuff about the new VPS to host the website
instead, which was useful anyway.
