I am indeed willing to do work and willing to contribute. And again, I
am pushing so much, because I have to do a primary Server Based
Computing / Thin Client Technology presentation approx. in September
this year. Originally, I wanted to use LTSP for that.

I am willing to contribute... However, I am not really willing to
reinvent the wheel (read and learn from code without background of
ideas). Neither am I willing to patch code without having a basis for
acceptance and integration of patches into the trunk of x2go code.
Add-ons, changes, bugfixes need to be discussed adequately. I would
love cooking ideas and being delegated with work by Heinz and Alex and
whoever is in the core team.

When utilizing x2go in greater contexts, I personally need the
possibility to be able to get involved, that is to help to improve the
product (for the benefit of my customers and the community). If that
will be possible in the x2go project (I am talking about an increase
of community facilities like bugtracker, code repository etc.) x2go

Re: session timeout management / idle management / lost processes

Mike,
  Ok, in your case I think you should immediately construct the minimum proof-of-concept that provides your basic framework for your intended usage.  Then as it proceeds ask questions necessary to get it built.  If it works then the rest should just be adding flesh and some extensions.

I understand that. My problem is, that I have to decide rather quickly
in what respect I can replace LTSP with x2go in a concept I have
written for schools. As the concept will be distributed to a couple of
potential customers soon, I am trying to collect information as a
basis for choice.

No I have not done that and I will do. It sounds like it might also be
good to wait for the new package versions.

Yeah, I guess, my requests and questions should rather go into a bugtracker...

Update website

Hi all,
   Is it possible someone can update the website with news and stuff happening
and say where to download which programs from where? Its getting a bit hard to
follow everything. Also will documents be updated to reflect the changes? I
think a more detailed doc is needed for x2goplugin. Anyway great stuff happening
keep on X2GOing!

Tks in advance

Re: Account on wiki

Hello Paul,
Hello wiki users,

I've set permissen to all registered users (they are all part of the
list too) of the wiki so they can work on the sites now. I to have added
the whole list of properties of the x2goplgin. The number has again
changed since yesterday as there is now again a new version of the plugin.

http://wiki.x2go.org/x2goplugin

The new properties:

sound=true/false
exportfs=true/false
speed=adsl
compression=16m-jpeg
quality=9
dpi=120
kbdlayout=de
kbdtype=pc105/de

best regards,

Heinz

I can verify the same problem on Debian Sid 64bit with Wmaker, xfce and
gnome window managers. I also commented out the line and single
applications now work as I expect.

I brought this issue up before but I never could quite figure out what
the problem was. Thanks!

Thanks, Heinz. I assume where you have not given true/false that you
have given the default values. Is that true? Is there any reason to
avoid defaulting compression to 16m-png-jpeg? In our random testing,
that seemed to give much crisper and more responsive screens than
16m-jpeg but I don't know enough about the underlying technology to know
if that is a wise change.

Does the x2go plugin update automatically or do we need to force a
download of the new plugin on existing installations to get the newer
version? Thanks again - John

the update does not get initiated automatically... Even if you go to
Firefox's Add-on manager and try to update the plugin/add-on manually
(right-click on the x2goplugin Add-On), it states that there are no
updates available.

Currently, the only way of updating is uninstallation of the plugin
and then opening your x2go-site location again. At least that's my
experience... An auto-update functionality would be nice...

... searching the web ...

Here is an article from 2008 that explains firefox add-on update
provision on add-on download URLs.
http://dev2.taboca.com/en/technotes/addons-update-mechanism/firefox-extensions-addon-update.html

In addition to that, I think for firefox 3.5 https locations are
obligatory now (encryption)...

Implementing an update mechanism for the plugin should become some
sort of priority, because if the plugin gets spread (among test users)
you surely want to ensure that spread plugins stay up-to-date...
Please let me know if help is needed...

 <at> Alex+Heinz:
Due to the https enforcement, it might be good to offer the x2go.org
Root-CA (if you have any) on the x2go homepage so that people can
install that in their browsers...

If you need a self-signed Root-CA and Certificates for encrypted URLs
let me know.

Greets,
Mike

Re: Account on wiki

Heinz,
  This is great.  The plugin is really getting very configurable now.

  I was looking at what was necessary to setup some kind of testing site and in order to support any large number of visitors one way would be to dynamically create the properties file for each session and dispose of it when finished.  Of course the plugin would have to manage this.

  Is there any mechanism within the plugin to support the idea of a 'onetime' usage?
  So for example, setting 'onetime' to true would mean that the properties file would be deleted at event 'onpageunload'.
