You're not both logging in with the same credentials or anything like
that are you? Or is this without even being logged into the server display?

Re: logged in terminal hangs server display

Daughter's user account on terminal. My user account on server (my
computer.) I have had the hanging issue happen when I am not logged in.
But, appears to be fine with screen saver disabled.

So, I could be wrong but, I still think it has something to do with the
screen saver.

I'm taking a stab in the dark, but this reminds me of a bug with the
proprietary nvidia drivers seen during the 9.04 release cycle.

Ok, that's not even 2 cents... :-)

Hybrid client?

I am trying to setup a "hybrid" client -- in my case a netbook -- that
can work in both fat and thin modes:

"Fat mode" client:

When disconnected from the network the client runs like a normal "fat"
Linux laptop. It boots from local disk, runs apps locally and uses
local disk's home dir (user files, profiles etc.)

"Thin mode" client:

When connected to the network the client boots off the network like a
normal thin client, runs applications on the server like a thin client
etc. The big exception to the normal thin client here is that I want
the server to use the client disk user's home directory. That way all
the user's files are accessible in both modes, and applications work
similarly in both modes.

The benefit of the "thin mode" client is the performance improvement.
The laptop I plan to use will have minimal CPU and RAM -- adequate for
occasional use, but not as a regular workstation.

I have done some searching and it appears this is something no one has
attempted. Is such a thing possible? If so, any advice as to how to
implement?

Thanks,

Jeff

LTSP 6.0 misses 2009-04-01 release date

The Lessdisks Terminal Server Project (LTSP) [1] is running a bit behind
schedule for the 2009-04-01 release of LTSP 6.0. We expect that by the end
of April, or no later than mid-May, we should be able to deliver.

Features you can expect from LTSP 6.0:

* Full wireless support
* CD and DVD burning
* Minimum hardware requirements significantly reduced from earlier
versions: 8MB of ram, 25MHz processor. putting the *thin* back in
thin-client.
* Seamless integration with youtube with great performance
* Reboot any computer as a thin client from your web browser from anywhere!

[1] the Lessdisks Terminal Server Project will be filing suit against the
Linux Terminal Server Project for use of the name LTSP, but continue to
improve upon the codebase under a freeware liscense as yet to be
disclosed.

Will I be able to mount floppy disks in youtube session?

Eagerly awaiting this exciting new development.

Can you please elaborate on this and educate us?

PS: I know most of people do not follow email niceties (mostly they
are not aware) but if you follow bottom post/in-line post style of
email conversations it becomes a whole lot easier to carry on
meaningful dialogue and you can snip out what is not meaningful too.
Most people just hit reply button and top post leaving prior message
appended uselessly at bottom. See if you can adopt this style and
persuade others. In case you are already doing this ..... great,
spread the message.
