Ben I think a knoppix hack would be the most general
PXE is nicer, but harder

While you often can get away with hacks ...
You can build tools and libraries for ltsp in LBE only.
You can not copy libraries etc from other places

Actually the BIOS is not involved. Provided the correct header is present on
your network card is is supposed to be run.
So network-boot depends on the correct rom header
(and definitly some BIOS's break the rules, so YMMV)

Re: I do not get the kernel loaded..

Hello Jim.

like always perfect help! openSUSE 10.2 comes with dhcp 3.0.5 and I copied my
dhcpd.conf from SuSE 9.2 which is much older. I did search the wiki but since
I was not realy sure what I was looking for I must have missed the link.
Sorry.

Well the setup is not yet working but I hope I can handle the rest...

Thanks a lot

Which /etc.... is ment? This under /opt/ltsp/etc or /etc on the server?

Thanks a lot
Michael

clients logout and shutdown in XFCE

Hello!
In our school we have Ubuntu 6.06 and LTSP 4.2. with up to 20 clients.
When the students need to use Openoffice I ask them to change session
and log in XFCE, but I wasn't able to disable the "shut down" button
when the clients log out. Anyone can help please?
Tnx.
Marco

I did the following:

mkdir /opt/ltsp/i386/root/.ssh
chmod 700 /opt/ltsp/i386/root
chmod 700 /opt/ltsp/i386/root/.ssh

[root <at> LTSPserver]$ ssh-keygen -t dsa -N ''
[root <at> LTSPserver]$ ssh-keygen -t rsa -N ''

[root <at> LTSPserver]# ssh-keygen -t
dsa -f /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key -N ''
[root <at> LTSPserver]# ssh-keygen -t
rsa -f /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key -N ''

/opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ssh/sshd_config:
PubkeyAuthentication      yes
PasswordAuthentication    no

[root <at> LTSPserver]# cat /root/.ssh/id_dsa.pub
>> /opt/ltsp/i386/root/.ssh/authorized_keys
[root <at> LTSPserver]# cat /root/.ssh/id_rsa.pub

[root <at> LTSPserver]# chmod 700 /opt/ltsp/i386/root/.ssh/authorized_keys

Are you talking about the shutdown button that xfce shows when you log
out? If so, I fixed that problem on my server by editing
/etc/xdg/xfce4/kiosk/kioskrc to look like this:

[xfce4-session]
CustomizeSplash=%wheel
CustomizeChooser=%wheel
CustomizeLogout=%wheel
CustomizeCompatibility=%wheel
Shutdown=NONE
CustomizeSecurity=NONE

The key point being the "Shutdown=NONE" line.

SMB-LDAP and WPA-Enterprise Wifi Security

I have written a "HowTo" that details how to use FreeRADIUS with the domain
set up with the "smbldap-installer" script to implement "WPA-Enterprise" Wifi
security (aka 802.11i RSN for 802.11).

I have put up a "googlepage"

        http://mrjohnlucas.googlepages.com/hoto%3Awpawithfreeradiusandsmb-ldap

Please forgive the URL, google chose it from my (mistyped) title.

The system described is a testbed only. It hasn't been field tested at all
(anyone have a Wifi network handy?), so caveat emptor.
