- nonstandard dhcpd port...can this work?

I have an etherboot image to boot a thin client using ports1067/1068 for
dhcpd, i set up my dhcp server to use 1067/1068 as well, but when it tries
to boot ltsp i get dhcpd error, and it says it was using port 67. It
clearly shows in the boot image it was the 1067 so is this not possible to
do with ltsp?

P.S. I am trying to use etherboot to get around a dhcp server i can't
control.

Re: - nonstandard dhcpd port...can this work?

Steve,

when an LTSP terminal boots, there's 2 separate DHCP queries that take
place.

The first one is sent by Etherboot. If you generated your rom image
correctly, you should be fine with that.

The second request is sent after the kernel is loaded. You need to pass
an option through the kernel cmdline to tell the 2nd dhcp request to use
the proper ports.

Take a look at the following wiki page for more info:

http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/DHCP#Use_different_port_numbers_for_t

Also, take a look at:

http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/KernelOptions

Re: Flash 9 beta available, but no ESD support

Has anyone tried messing with this? I got the libflashsupport.so to

muekow sshd_config

I'm working on setting up muekow with debian. The client boots but I
can ssh back to the server. Can somebody send me a working sshd_config to
compare with my non-working sshd_config?

Thanks.

true color mode

Hi list

I'm trying to use VariCAD (a 3D CAD software) on a LTSP client.
It works fine on the server, but when I launch it on a client (using
Gnome), it stops with this message:
"VariCAD requires True Color mode - change settings of your graphic"

Where can I find the video mode I'm using, and how can I change it? I
know how to change resolution in Gnome, but I didn't find the color mode.

Thanks for any help

LBE & Xorg

Hi all,

More problems with latest LBE:
xterm is not build when building Xorg.
Xorg builds ok otherwise, no errors at all.

I can't find where xterm is excluded, in my opinion
it shouldn't be.

Has somebody a hint how to solve this ?

Re: - nonstandard dhcpd port...can this work?

I got this working fine in one room thanks to your help, so then I changed
the ips to accomodate the other room and now it can't mount with NFS. I
know it is setup correctly because it worked fine in the other room. I
changed the exports, hosts, hosts allow, lts.conf, dhcpd.conf to the new
ips, did i miss something?

After changing all that, did you restart the services or reboot?
For NFS, you simply need to run:

    exportfs -ra

to inform the kernel nfs server of the changes to the /etc/exports file.

Rebooting will also do that.

Try running:

    showmount -e

to see if you are really exporting what you think you are.

if you still can't get it, then please send us the following:

1) output of: ifconfig -a

2) output of: showmount -e

3) Your dhcpd.conf file

sound in update 4

I am new to this list, but I found a posting here regarding losing sound
in ltsp-4.2 update4. I can confirm the the procedure suggested also was
necessary for me. I am running Debian Sarge.

I had to include -public to the esd line in rc.sound. It seems that line
including the export variable, was disregared on all my servers. Putting
'-public' into the esd line gave me back sound on my terminals.

Will this be addressed in a update5?

Regards
Trond Maehlum

Re: Firefox + Flash = the ultimate resource pig

I have not had a chance to install Flashback yet and today the server came to almost a total stop because of Flash today. Now I see that the problem could be that every user has their own unique install of libflashplayer.so. Possibly because of web sites that wan the user to upgrade to the new Flash and Firefox lets them install plugings to there home directory. I think the server would be able to better deal with Flash if everyone used the same global install of libflashplayer.so.

What is the best way to do this? I don't want to hack 150 mozilla conf files and I don't like the idea of having a sym-link in a users how that needs to be owned by root to prevent the user from overwriting it.

I would like some ideas about what to do about this. I am running LTSP in a school of maybe 120 students and 60 terminals. At any given time there are between 20 to 50 people using the server and maybe half of them are on the Internet. The problem is web sites that use flash to show advertising, it is very common. We need Flash enabled because some educational sites use it as a teaching tool but the majority of Flash is useless crap. Flash is becoming the resource pig of the server. Just 5 people browsing a web site with Flash uses more system resources then 50 people running OpenOffice.

Is anyone else dealing with this problem? What are LTSP admins doing about it?
