Re: Local Dev does not work on second login.

udev messages always work.

Just to to test added full rw permission to /dev/fuse.

Seems to increase the odds of it working but if I keep logging in and
out it enough times it will fail.

Also removed /etc/fuse.conf as no longer using fam.

When it was in the failed state restarted lbuscd on the terminal in
debug mode "lbuscd -d -n"

Much to my surprise it started working again after logging in again.

Managed to get it to fail by logging out and back in.

Looking at the debug out put noticed:
When it works see a connect from host message then a register messages
for the user.
When it fails get the connect messages but no register messages.

I can save the messages to a files if that will help.

LTSP 4.1 and sound support

Hi. I still get message (during terminal boot) saying that
/usr/X11R6/bin/nasd cannot be found. Since I use LTSP 4.1 I have
expected sound support already included. Yet there is no such file.
Where am I mistaken? Thanks

If I remember correctly you need to use aftftp or tftp-hpa and not the
tftp package in Ubuntu. HTH.

Actually, I tried using tftpd, atftpd, and tftpd-hpa (one at a time)
with the same results. :(

black background, icons disappear

Hello List,

we have a problem that sometimes arises on the clients:
using kde, and sometimes the background and the icons from the desktop
dissappears. But otherwise the client works well, programs can be started. If
logging out and in again, the backgrounds and the icons appeares again.

I thought that maybe too much programs are running at the same time. If I
execute the command netstat|grep 6000|wc -l on the server, I get the number
206.
Maybe thats too much connection?

Thanks for the help in advance,
Istvan

Re: i810 X crashes on startup

Andrew-

I don't know how significant it is, but it looks like the trouble you're
having is somewhat like I experienced with a video driver. I was able to
eliminate the ultra-high refresh rates like those here:

(--) I810(0): Virtual size is 1024x768 (pitch 1024)
(**) I810(0): *Default mode "1024x768": 78.8 MHz, 60.1 kHz, 75.1 Hz
(II) I810(0): Modeline "1024x768" 78.80 1024 1040 1136 1312 768 769 772 800 +hsync +vsync
(**) I810(0): *Default mode "800x600": 56.3 MHz, 53.7 kHz, 85.1 Hz
(II) I810(0): Modeline "800x600" 56.30 800 832 896 1048 600 601 604 631 +hsync +vsync
(**) I810(0): *Default mode "640x480": 36.0 MHz, 43.3 kHz, 85.0 Hz
(II) I810(0): Modeline "640x480" 36.00 640 696 752 832 480 481 484 509 -hsync -vsync

Using the clue I got on this list:

These lines in lts.conf, with suitable numbers for your monitor, should fix it.

        X_HORZSYNC = "24-80"
        X_VERTREFRESH = "55-75"

Re: ltsp 4.2 fuse and ldap

John-

I'm having some similar trouble, and I've come to suspect the "udev rules"
for fuse need to be revised on my system. Can you post your set somehow?
It is a fairly complicated system/setup, and I'm not sure where mine are
wrong, but I get a /dev/fuse that is owned by root.root instead of
root.fuse on startup.

Thanks for all you do!

You must be using udev.
With udev all the stuff in /dev is created on each boot.
Do not have a box with udev support handy but there are settings in
/etc/udev.

Primarily my concern is people saving documents on removable media other
then on the server where they are backed up.

If I was really concerned about the security aspect there would be no
removable io devices or ports available period. Of course one would need
to do much more. Then again I do not work for the cia ;-)

What distribution should I use?

I'm a big CentOS fan. Works well as a server and a workstation. It's a
good all around distribution.

For the past two months or so I've been playing around with OpenSuse.
While I wouldn't use it as a server it does make a good workstation.

Should I stick with CentOS or make the switch to Suse? If there's
another distribution I should be looking at let me know.

Re: black background, icons disappear

Perhaps it isn't a LTSP issue.
I think that if you've got (even some) of your desktop on the
terminal, that means the xserver is working.
If you get the same problem when logging on at your server, then it's
more likely to be a kde issue.

my two cents.
Chris.
