hdparm 9.29 has been released [freshmeat.net]

Dear freshmeat.net subscriber,

barsnick just announced version 9.29 of hdparm on freshmeat.net.

The changes are as follows:

The "--offset" flag was added for use with "-t", to get timings from the middle
or end of a drive. The "--trim-sector-ranges-stdin" was restricted to small TRIM
commands on most drives. Verbose reporting was modified. Reporting of SATA3
signaling speed was added to "-I". The use of ATA_16 for all commands to ATAPI
devices is now forced. A sector count of "1" is now supplied to IDENTIFY
commands, to satisfy buggy USB3 bridges.

Project description:

hdparm is a Linux shell utility for viewing and manipulating various IDE drive
and driver parameters. Most drives can benefit from improved performance using a
command similar to "hdparm -qm8 -qu1 -qc1 -qd1 /dev/hda".

GiNaC 1.5.8 has been released [freshmeat.net]

Dear freshmeat.net subscriber,

witharr just announced version 1.5.8 of GiNaC on freshmeat.net.

The changes are as follows:

The default behavior of conjugate() for user-defined functions was changed to
avoid wrong evaluations. A user-defined conjugate_func must now be explicitly
registered. The parser now handles abbreviations as advertised in the manual.
Two bugs were fixed in the GCD code (one infinite loop, one miscalculation).
Dangerous iterator use was fixed. A memory leak in excompiler was fixed. Several
syntax issues with respect to gcc 4.5 and with respect to compile option
-std=cxx0x were fixed. A wrong URL and a texinfo problem in the manual were
fixed. The degree_vector() utility function was added.

Project description:

GiNaC (GiNaC is Not a CAS (Computer Algebra System)) is a C++ library for
symbolic calculations. It is designed to allow the creation of integrated
systems that embed symbolic manipulations together with more established areas
of computer science (like computation-intense numeric applications, graphical
interfaces, etc.). Contrary to other CASes it does not try to provide extensive
algebraic capabilities and a simple programming language but instead accepts a
given language (C++) and extends it by a set of algebraic capabilities.

zlib 1.2.5 has been released [freshmeat.net]

Dear freshmeat.net subscriber,

barsnick just announced version 1.2.5 of zlib on freshmeat.net.

The changes are as follows:

Bugs were fixed in adler32_combine(), compressBound(), and deflateBound(). The
gz functions were replaced with faster versions and gzbuffer(), gzoffset(),
gzclose_r(), and gzclose_w() functions were added. Faster Z_HUFFMAN_ONLY and
Z_RLE compression was introduced for images and other specialized compression. A
Z_BLOCK flush option was added to deflate() along with a Z_TREES flush option
for inflate(). inflateReset2() and inflateMark() functions were added, the
latter to aid in random access applications. Many portability improvements were
made. Examples and contribs were updated.

Project description:

zlib is designed to be a free, general-purpose, legally unencumbered, lossless
data-compression library for use on virtually any computer hardware and
operating system. The zlib data format is itself portable across platforms.
Unlike the LZW compression method used in Unix compress(1), the compression
method currently used in zlib essentially never expands the data. (LZW can
double or triple the file size in extreme cases.) zlib's memory footprint is
also independent of the input data and can be reduced, if necessary, at some
cost in compression.

Detailed history and release notes are available here:
