Bug Squashing party for Debian and Ubuntu in Oslo, Norway weekend
2014-05-10/11

Do you want to learn how to fix bugs in Debian and Ubuntu. Did a bug in
your favourite program annoy you for a while, and you want to do your
part to get rid of it for good?

The member association Norwegian Unix User Group (NUUG)[1] and the
Skolelinux/Debian Edu project[2] in cooperation with the Bitraf[3]
hack space is organising a bug squashing party for Debian and Ubuntu.
A Debian Edu developer gathering[4] is co-located with the
Debian/Ubuntu meeting, and the Frikanalen TV station project[5] is
especially invited.

Digi: IT-gigantene kan presses i lisensforhandlinger

Jeg leste med interesse
<URL: http://www.digi.no/924586/it-gigantene-kan-presses >, og bet meg
spesielt merke til følgende formulering:

  - Kartlegg alternativene
  ------------------------

deltagerlister, slik at Microsoft blir klar over styrket

Video presenting the installatiand applications in Skolelinux 7

Hi. I came across
<URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-GgpdqgLFc >, showing how to
install and use Skolelinux / Debian Edu 7 (Standalone). Looks like a
good demonstration, even though the background images behind the
virtual machine draw the attention away a bit.

Anyone know who made it? Are there other videos related to Debian Edu
7 around? Did not see anyone while looking at

Announcing Debian Edu / Skolelinux 7.1 (wheezy)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Debian Project http://www.debian.org/
Debian Edu — a complete Linux solution for your school press <at> debian.org
September 28th, 2013 http://www.debian.org/News/2013/20130928
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Debian Edu is a complete operating system for schools. Through its
various installation profiles you can install servers, workstations and
laptops which will work together on the school network. With Debian Edu,
the teachers themselves or their technical support can roll out a
complete multi-user multi-machine study environment within hours or a
few days. Debian Edu comes with hundreds of applications pre-installed,
but you can always add more packages from Debian.

The Debian Edu developer team is happy to announce Debian Edu 7.1+edu0
"Wheezy", the sixth Debian Edu / Skolelinux release, based on Debian 7
(aka "Wheezy"), which has been updated and carefully improved compared
to the previous Squeeze release while keeping its unique feature set and
ease of maintainability.

Some recent feedback:

   * Giorgio Pioda, system administrator, who is using Debian Edu at SPSE
(Scuola per Sportivi d’Élite [1]) in Tenero, Switzerland (Cantone
Ticino, Italian speaking part), says: "I can report that I'm on
production with Debian Edu Wheezy since mid-August and it works rock
solid, we are using it every day."
   * Nigel Barker, IT Coordinator at Hiroshima International School [2],
Japan: "I was able to get a new Tjener and computer room ready for
the new school year in only 4 days following the beta 1 release. I

Second beta release (beta 1) of Debian Edu/Skolelinux based on Debian Wheezy

New features for Debian Edu 7.1+edu0~b1 released 2013-08-22
===========================================================

These are the release notes for Debian Edu / Skolelinux 7.1+edu0~b1,
based on Debian with codename "Wheezy".

About Debian Edu and Skolelinux
-------------------------------

Debian Edu, also known as Skolelinux[1], is a Linux distribution
based on Debian providing an out-of-the box environment of a
completely configured school network. Immediately after installation a
school server running all services needed for a school network is set
up just waiting for users and machines being added via GOsa², a
comfortable Web-UI. A netbooting environment is prepared using PXE, so
after initial installation of the main server from CD or USB stick all
other machines can be installed via the network. The provided school
server provides LDAP database and Kerberos authentication service,
centralized home directories, DHCP server, web proxy and many other
services. The desktop contains more than 60 educational software
packages[2] and more are available from the Debian archive, and schools
can choose between KDE, Gnome, LXDE and Xfce desktop environment.
