8500 support will not be available until XFree86 4.3.0 if not
later. There is nobody actively working on it in an official or
full time capacity. Ani Joshi claims to have written 8500 3D
support for his employer, but has indicated he doesn't know if
they will allow him to release it or not.

All you can do is wait for 4.3.0 to arrive for now I'm afraid...

Sorry..

Re: ATI Radeon 8500 3D

Mike,

Given the response to the 8500, I thought I'd go out on a limb. What's
the X support story with the ATI Fire line?

Most (if not all) the boards say linux support included. 2D? 3D?

Stefan,

If you can't wait and have $129 burning a hole in your pocket, try:

XFree86 4.2 and Triden Cyber 9388

Does anyone have XFree working on a Trident Cyber 9388 using the 4.2
series? I'm having problems with the XFree in skipjack (4.2.0-6.47)
on my NEC Versa SX.

TIA,
Tony

ATI Radeon 8500 3D

Hello back,

Thanks for answers. Sorry for my delay I was really busy.
I am using right now XIG's drivers. they work great .
I posted on mailing list a small problem with a keyboard delay which I
have seen using Summit 2.1.4 (My first initial email, where I asked
actually about this)

Otherwise the drivers are great and bzflag under RedHat works cool.
I hope XFRee guys will send out 4.3.0 with 3D support for Radeon8500.
I would like to make a comparation between XIG's drivers and XFRee86 .

Stefan

I've opened a bugzilla ticket in case you're interested:
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=61834.

Did you try any of Mike Harris' intermediate releases? I was hoping
to narrow down where the problems started.

Tony
