Grace Hopper WAS [Ambassadors] conference request

Dear Mario and Mark,

I have always been fascinated by the Grace Hopper conference but I
have never attended. Please count me as interested.

Just in case others are interested, I have cross-posted.

In 2010, Stormy Peters somehow procured a table for Free Software
at-large. She then sent out an email blast which included
women <at> lists.fedoraproject.org I don't know if anything came of it.
Does anybody know?

I believe that Fedora is a great fit for Grace Hopper conference. The
audience demographic tends to be academic. Free Software is great for
doing research. Too much valuable time is wasted applying for grants
to gratis proprietary software and monitoring the quantity of seats
consumed. Why bother when Fedora is the freshest software out there?

Thanks for getting this started. I plus one the idea of Fedora at
Grace Hopper 2012!

Thanks,

Beth Lynn Eicher

Ohio LinuxFest Call for Presentations

(Re-send to these two groups due to email address typo &
not-yet-subscribed-before-ness...)

Ohio LinuxFest is hoping to receive more proposals from a more diverse
range of participants in the FOSS arena than ever before. Last year I
sent out an email blast like this to a handful of women's groups, and
the result was that even after turning down over half the women's
submissions, over 35% of accepted presentations were from women.
Despite lack of outreach to accessibility groups (sorry!), 5% of
speakers identified as disabled. Recognising there is more to
diversity than gender (and that there are more distros than
Debian/Ubuntu), the email blast has gotten bigger this year. Please
pass this along to any other mailing lists you are aware of for
minority groups within the community (and let me know about them).

There is also a Diversity in Open Source workshop scheduled for
Sunday. The cost is $20 including a brunch. Information about that
can be found here: http://ohiolinux.org/dios

The conferences does have a Diversity Statement:
"The Ohio LinuxFest is dedicated for making Open Source truly open to
everyone. We do not discriminate based on ethnic background, religion,
gender, sexuality, body shape, disability, or even what operating
system you use. We also do not tolerate harassment based on
discrimination.

We understand that some people need special assistance to fully enjoy
our conference. If we can help you find a wheelchair, arrange for an
ASL translator or a guide for the sight impaired, or any other special
need, please let us know at assist@..."

0.0.0.0:1500 for example) but didn't call listen()?

question about fedora

estimated,

I'm sending this mail because right now I have trouble with installing Fedora 13 on my desktop computer (by the way i onw an AMD  Athlon x2 Processor, it supports 64 bits) It boots from the cd as it should do, but once i select the option to try Fedora from the CD it just won't start. I noticed that it only does that on the desktop computer, because I also have a netbook in which Fedora works properly. I don't know what to do and
I would be very glad and thankful If I could get help from you so that I can resolve this problem.
Look forward to hearing from you.

María Eugenia Brea.

Fedora women lightning talk

Hi everyone,

I'm the organiser for the Haecksen miniconf[0] at linux.conf.au 2011[1].

I currently have some open slots for lightning talks, and was wondering
if there was anyone out there in Fedora-land that would like to speak
about fedora-women, or some other relevant topic. We have already
scheduled a talk about the GNOME women's outreach project, and there are
many Ubuntu-women contributors who will be there on the day. It would
nice to have Fedora represented as well.

If you are going to be at LCA in January, and you wouldn't mind dropping
in to Haecksen on the Monday to speak for 5 minutes, then I'd love to
hear from you.

Email unicorn@... and let me know your ideas!

Thanks,
Lana

Intro Post: Beth Lynn Eicher

Hi Ladies,

I just joined The Fedora Documentation project last week. Right now I am focusing on wiki gardening.

My wiki page is https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Bethlynn where I explain my relationship with Fedora.
I've already put myself into https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Women There are more than 6 women involved with Fedora, right?!?

Thanks,

Beth Lynn Eicher

An opportunity to work on GNOME through Google Summer of Code

Hi all!

Google Summer of Code is a program that offers stipends to students for working on various open source
projects. It is a great way to spend your summer working on GNOME which is an upstream project for Fedora.
Google Summer of Code application period has just opened and ends April 9. It is a good idea to sort out
details such as what project you want to work on and who can be your potential mentor ahead of the
application deadline.

As a Google Summer of Code student, you will have support of your mentor, other people working on the project
you'll join, other program participants, the community of women in GNOME, and the whole GNOME community.
People usually talk in the IRC channels, such as #soc, #gnome-women, #gnome-hackers, and
project-specific channels on irc.gnome.org and also learn about each other's work through the Planet
GNOME blog aggregator at http://planet.gnome.org .

Here is a GNOME page that explains the process and links to all the important information, such as the
project ideas page and Google's official information about the program.

http://live.gnome.org/SummerOfCode2010

As an alternative to selecting a project idea on the ideas page, you can get in touch with any of the mentors
who have expressed interest in mentoring technical projects for the Outreach Program for Women and
define a project with them for which they can be your mentor in Google Summer of Code.

http://live.gnome.org/GnomeWomen/OutreachProgram#participating-projects

Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions about the application process or what could be a good
project to work on. Also, please pass along this information to anyone who you think might be interested in
the program.

Thanks!
Marina
