Internetnews.com: Red Hat Selects New Fedora Project Leader

Red Hat Selects New Fedora Project Leader
By Sean Michael Kerner | February 07, 2012

From the 'Thanks Jared!' files:

It looks like current Fedora Project Leader Jared Smith will not be overseeing the Beefy Miracle Fedora 17
release. Smith announced leadership changes at the Fedora project today that will see a new leader in place.

Smith became the Fedora Project Leader in June of 2010 as the successor to Paul Frields (who had held the post
since 2008). I've had the good fortune of speaking with Smith for every Fedora release during his tenure
and was always impressed with his depth of knowledge and insight into what really matters - both at Fedora
and for the Linux world as a whole.

The Register: New Fedora Boss Pushes for the Clouds

New Fedora boss pushes for the clouds

Robyn Bergeron takes the reins

By Iain Thomson in San Francisco

Posted in Operating Systems, 7th February 2012 23:24 GMT

Red Hat has appointed former Fedora program manager Robyn Bergeron to that distro's next project leader
– and she has plans to make the operating system more focused on cloud services.

Bergeron takes over from Jared Smith at an interesting time in the market, with the industry increasingly
looking beyond the basic client/server environment into cloudier areas, and with a greater variety of
computing systems to choose from. One of the areas she’ll be examining is the usefulness of Fedora for
cloud services, she explained to The Register on Tuesday.

[In the News] New Leader (german Edition)

hello,

here are some of the Headlines from germany about the new Leadership of
Robyn ;-)

* Neue Leiterin für das Fedora-Projekt

"Robyn Bergeron <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User%3ARbergero>, bislang
als Fedora Program Manager bei Red Hat tätig, übernimmt die Leitung
<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Project_Leader> des von Red Hat
gesponserten Fedora-Projekts <http://fedoraproject.org/>. Das kündigte
der derzeitige Leiter des Fedora-Projekts, Jared K. Smith, überraschend
in einer Mail
<http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/announce/2012-February/003039.html>
an. Er hatte den Posten als "Fedora Project Leader" im Sommer 2010
übernommen
<http://www.heise.de/open/meldung/Neuer-Fedora-Projektleiter-ernannt-1031039.html>

H-Online article: New Fedora Project Leader announced

http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/New-Fedora-Project-Leader-announced-1429999.html

Note that paragraph 2 states the Fedora Board selected Jared Smith
previously, which is inaccurate. The Board is consulted regarding FPL
appointments, but Red Hat is ultimately responsible for selecting the
FPL as this is a paid staff position. I sent a polite correction to
the site, and hopefully they'll either print that, or update the
article.

[In the news] Fedora's package information web site

Hi

http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Fedora-s-package-information-web-site-1414676.html

"The Fedora Project has launched a beta version of the Fedora Packages
web site, which provides access to various information on the software
contained in Fedora. The web site, which is primarily aimed at
developers, gives a brief description of and shows the contents of the
packages that make up the distribution. Users can also find out which
version of the packages are used in which Fedora versions and which bugs
are assigned to a package in the bug-tracking database"

[In the news] Fedora relocates operating system under /usr/

Hi

http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Fedora-relocates-operating-system-under-usr-1423644.html

The Fedora developers are currently working on implementing the plan to
move all files stored in the Linux distribution's /bin/, /sbin/, /lib/
and /lib64/ directories to equivalent sub-directories in /usr/. Symbolic
links will ensure compatibility with scripts and software that may
otherwise be caught out by the change."

[in the news]: Red Hat Quietly Joins the OpenStack Effort - ReadWriteWeb

" Right now a lot of us are focused on making Openstack and Fedora
work great together.'

Indeed, Robinson goes on to note that OpenStack is to be 'advertised
as a primary feature of the upcoming Fedora release' and the project
is having an OpenStack Test Day on March 8.

It's important to note that Fedora is not solely controlled by Red
Hat. Features can go into Fedora that Red Hat has no interest in.
However, Fedora is often used to test features before they make their
way into Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). "

Self-Introduction: Abhishek Kumar

Hi, my name is Abhishek Kumar and I live in Gurgaon, India . My Fedora Account System (FAS) username is abkumar, and my IRC nick is also abkumar

I learned about the Fedora Marketing team through fedora project website, and am interested in joining because I am avid fan of fedora project right from the days of Red Hat Linux 8 which eventually became Fedora project .

I've worked with FreeMedia group in the past if fedoraproject but left because I think instead of distributing free cds we need to educate users/public about the benefits associated with free and open source software, of which fedora is an integral part.

This is the first Marketing project I have worked on! as I am a technical guy working in a team supporting businesses on servers with Linux, open source software.

My skills, which I hope to utilize in Fedora Marketing, include:

  • (Marketing Skills) - social media such as facebook, google+ etc
  • (Other Skills) - I would like to participate in local groups near Delhi NCR area
  • I'd also like to learn how to introduce fedora to academic innovation and day to day use at colleges.

When I'm not working on Fedora, I am working at Navisite as a linux support engineer and I am fond of cars. (Studying at this school, working at this company, pursuing this hobby.)

I am currently working on Fedora 16 verne release and currently enjoying systemd and other unique features it offers.

Please help me get started!
