Perhaps, but that's not obvious, given that the error I get is
specifically with shared libraries and your earlier reply is related to
a different error: "setup.data/setup.xml:1: parser error : Document is
empty"

Thanks all the same. I'm not so interested in Google Earth as to want to
install a 32-bit Xorg just to run it.

They should not be version centric, we add new features but it is
evolving rather then drastically different. If doc writers want to work
on it, I am willing to work with them.

Flash Player Square (stealthily) updated recently

Seems Adobe/Macromedia has released an update to their flash players
recently, without announcing that they also released an update to their
64 Linux players as well. You can visit this page:

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10_square.html

for the actual library.

While the page still claims to be preview 2 released on 9/25/2010,
the file linked to for 64 bit Linux has changed to:

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplayer10/flashplayer10_2_p3_64bit_linux_111710.tar.gz

The date on the libflashplayer.so in this archive is 11/16/10.
I am waiting for a particular regression to be fixed, and it is not yet
fixed in this release.

The lack of acknowledgment from Adobe/Macromedia distresses me. But it
is their business decision to do so.

I was just downloading the 64 bit player today to see if it would
fix bug 658225 (it doesn't unless I also remove nspluginwrapper
so it runs flash directly). I'm pretty sure I saw a note on one
of the pages (don't ask which one, as they are not exactly
organized) that explicitly mentioned you are on your own as
far as checking for updates goes if you use a beta version.

You can try turning on USB support for legacy systems (or something
like that...) in your BIOS. This will make your keyboard/mouse look

Just open a terminal, type

wine flash.exe

and see what happens. :-) If it is a standalone program it should just run.

Btw, I don't think your system is open for Windows viruses just by installing
wine. Typically wine has trouble running even legitimate programs made for
Windows (since it still doesn't translate *all* features of Windows OS into
Linux environment), let alone viruses which deliberately have "dirty" code and
use quirks, bugs and holes of the Windows OS. Typically wine cannot emulate
those bugs and holes so effectively as the original Windows :-) , so AFAIK
viruses would typically fail to run under wine. Of course, YMMV. Also, you
would need to be stupid enough to type "wine my-favorite-virus.exe" in the
terminal to actually run the thing, I doubt it would run as automatically as
in Windows... ;-) Then again, I might be wrong, I'm no expert on wine, just an
occasional user.

HTH, :-)

I do not know which part to check, no Tools menu.

Is the following the right command to invoke?

[root <at> localhost etc]# iptables -L

It is problem of accessing the globus site. The Firefox was loading
with an infinite mount of time, nothing turned up. Yes, you were
guessing right, I can not watch mov video, e.g.,

http://www.physics.harvard.edu/QFT/video/01-opening.mov
But this is not the main problem at a moment.

Probably I need additional plugin, apart from those already there. I
will be glad to try if you have some clue. Thanks for the response.

I meant, the Firefox was loading with an infinite mount of time, the
page was just blank without any message. It seems the browser wast
stacked with some scripts.

I did invoke wget to the site, just for experimenting, and it works.
The problem was from my browser's side.
