Gnome panel lost most icons...AGAIN

This is a recurring problem, but the intervals are relatively long. This
time it's about a month since the last time I experienced it. Sometimes
it takes longer for it to show up again.

I use a single panel on the right side of the screen, have applets,
icons and drawers on it. This time I removed the Tomboy icon from the
panel. An error message appeared telling me that there was some error
with the configuration files, and that the panel may not display
correctly. Most of the icons disappeared, including all drawers.

In gnome-config section /apps/panel/toplevels all entries for the
drawers are still present, but in section /apps/panel/objects they are
gone.

I've found bug reports about something similar, so I'll try and see if
it helps to go that route, though it seems to be an old problem.

My question here is: Is there a way that I can make a backup of the
working setup and bring it back if this happens again?

List of objects involved (I don't know if this helps any, but..)

The objects that remained were: clock, workspace switcher, PanelFM,
Window list, Notification area, NetworkManager icon, System monitor CPU
frequency monitor and volume control.

The ones that disappeared were: Main menu, 8 drawers with quite a few
icons in them, terminal, lock screen.

Does the Zyxel have an option to turn off its DHCP server? If so,
you could use the same setup as you were using with the Linksys.
Turning on or off NAT should not be a problem, because that is
normally only between the WAN port the the rest of the network. It
should have no affect on the machines connected on the LAN side in
this case.

You mean something like 66.92.130.203 being one of them?

reading from local mailbox file in thunderbird

Hi,

Does anyone know how to read from a local mailbox file on thunderbird? The
trouble is that I have fetchmail to dump mail into my local folders and then I
have to read it from there. No options: this is a place of work requirement.

Any suggestions? TB seems to have a POP or IMAP option, nothing else.

Many thanks and best wishes,
Trotter

What version of TB are you using? Version 2.0.0.6 has the option to create
a "Unix Mailspool (Movemail)" account.

Yum install pine and use it to read your local mail. It works fine
with fetchmail and I used that 6 or 7 years ago, and today I read my
root mail with pine.

Sharing a printer with Mac OS X 10.4

Hi all,

I am running F7, and I've been trying to share a PSC 1510 HP USB
printer with my girlfriend's MacBook Pro, but so far no joy. She keeps
saying "of course this won't work, it's Linux". Of course she's wrong,
I just need you guys' help to prove it to her ;-)

First I thought that going to the Printer configuration dialog and
setting it as "Shared" should do the trick. Not really: her Mac
doesn't see the printer on the network. Since she's looking for
"Windows Printers", I tried starting SAMBA with the default
configuration, but it didn't help either.

Shouldn't CUPS sharing be enough? Is SAMBA really necessary? If so,
any hints on how to achieve this?

TIA

Andre
