Install

RHN/Up2date does not seem to work from the GUI. I installed Fedora as a
"Personal PC" and when I went to run the update it seemed to download
everything, although I couldn't find it on the machine anywhere, and
started to run an update, but just locked up at some point during the
process. Is this an isolated incident, or have others seen this as well?

With any luck, you should be able to mount /dev/sda1 just like you'd
mount any other device (mount /dev/sda1 /some/mount/point). That should
be just about all there is to it.

I'm having trouble booting from the CD

Hello everyone.  I have a problem I was hoping someone could help me with.  When I try to boot my Fedora CD I get this message

ISOLINUX 2.06  2003-08-22   isolinux:  disk error 01, AX = 4293, 9F

I have no idea what it means or what to do.  Any help that someone could give me would be appreciated.

Hummmm, interestingly enough I did not have that file. A simple
"yum install hotplug" seems to have fixed it though.

Thanks for the hint,

Not necessairly, you need to be sure the hotplug package is installed. With
that installed it "just works" (tm) for me. Look in the logs for error or clues
If you do not see it identified as a scsi device you are missing something.

Fedora Core on the SPARC

Hey guys, is there any plan to port FC to SUN Sparc machines. I have
three and I was just wondering what my alternatives were.

first off - have you check your volume control, speakers and cable? I
know it sounds trite but I've been caught before by unplugged cables.

Check your log (/var/log/messages) for error messages.

Since you said that you listen to mp3, you must have installed
additional software. There may be some conflict. You might want to
remove it to see if that fixes the problem.

Installing Fedora from ISO Images

I am currently running Windows XP / Mandrake 9.1 on a Dell Inspiron 5100. I was planning on upgrading to Mandrake 9.2 (mainly for ACPI) and decided to give Fedora a try. Well that's the preample. But, here is the catch. I didn't pay for the external floppy drive, or a CD writer. So, I've downloaded the ISO images, I have verified the MD5SUM, I can even mount the images and view the files inside. But as far as I can tell, without writing the images to a CD, it appears that I can't do anything usefull with them. It seems like it should be possible to mount the images during the install process, instead of the CD-ROM. Has anyone ever tried that?

Thanks,
