[Design-team] design-suite patch to comps for review

Hello,

I've edited the comps file, and would like to present it to you folks
for review, before I submit it to the devel list and finally commit it.

http://ankursinha.fedorapeople.org/misc/comps-diff-design-suite.patch

Are the "defaults" and "optional" packages all right? Please have a look
and let me know.

Thanks,
Ankur

IMO, abiword, gnumeric, etc. as default seem wrong. They're not design
suite items; they're office tools. (And, if the Design Suite needs office
tools, it should be using the system office suite - OO.o).

gwibber and hamster applet also appear to be out of scope. And gnome-utils
should be pulled in by dependencies if something needs it, not explicitly
listed.

Typesetting, typography and such are also design so some office apps
are probably desirable to have here, however I agree we should use
LibreOffice (or OO.o if the transition isn't ready for F15) instead of
abiword, gnumeric, ...

[Design-team] F15 Alpha Wallpaper

Hi all,

since yesterday was the deadline and there seemed to be no meeting
either, I was wondering what's the state of the alpha wallpaper. What
should I package? I see just two concepts on the devel page [1]...

Cheers,
Martin

PS: I switched to rawhide recently and one really annoying thing on the
Gnome version is the wallpaper. Initially I just thought the stripes
looked nice albeit oldish/retro, but actually seeing them on desktop
annoyed me a lot, to my surprise. So I'd like to propose to tone them
down a lot in our version.

Not sure what's happening on this. Was there any discussion at FUDCon at all? Mo? :)

[Design-team] Need help with artwork for Fedora Robotics Suite

Dear design team!
I'm a member of Fedora Robotics SIG. As you might already know, we are
going to provide Fedora Robotics Suite[1] as a Fedora 15 feature. The
goal of this suite is to make Fedora a great platform for people who are
actively working in Robotics field and also a great platform for
learning robotics. We are also planning on providing a Robotics LiveDVD.

As a part of this work, we need some artwork for the webpages, some
icons and at last for Anaconda (the last one is only needed for the
LiveDVD which follows). And I think you can guess how good is our team
in arts! ;)

Because of this, we decided to contact you. It would be great if you can
help us with some needed artwork, so that we can provide a more polished
look at the end.
Our current requirements are:

* Logo for the Robotics Suite
* Banner for Robotics Suite to be used on our webpages
* Icons for Player utilities and Stage (some robotics
applications)(They're not essential to the robotics suite effort, but
would be nice to have)
* Anaconda and some logo contents, to provide a more customized look for
the LiveDVD (again, not necessary with  Robotics Suite feature effort;
but appreciated)

Any help with the above is highly appreciated. :)

Thanks,
Hedayat

The development page is what we were working on (lots of source files
and assets available here too:
http://fedorapeople.org/groups/designteam/Resources/Fedora%20Release%
20Themes/F15/Alpha%20Development/ )

Should we just package the concept Jef and I came up with that has birds
+vines and keep working on a better one for beta?

Hi all,

So the plan we were discussing at FUDCon was, as I understand it, something like this:

- we'll try to create something during a hackfest (of which the results are on that wiki page)
- it will be based on the GNOME striped wallpaper, but with our own touch added to it
- if we can create something we think looks good, we'll propose it to the GNOME designers, so they can tell us if they agree or not with using it in F15
- if they don't agree to that, we'll propose it to the Board to get a decision on what to do

At least, that's my view on it. Seems to me that's a way to get a reasonable compromise where both the GNOME and Fedora Design teams can provide input. If I got something wrong, please correct me.

Anyway, to answer Martin's question... The deadline for the Alpha wallpaper was yesterday and the package deadline is next week. So we should probably choose one and package it, or (if none are satisfactory) refrain from doing so and simply have the old wallpaper for Alpha (which obviously has the downside of not getting feedback).

Jef

Sounds fine with me, however as I started working on it I ran upon one
issue: this wallpaper is widescreen and there does not seem any way to
sanely crop it for 4:3 and 5:4... Changing aspect ratios is also the
wrong way to do it. For now I've done some so-so cropping, but we
should definitely take different aspect ratios into account in the
future editions.
