Uh?

Perhaps somebody just mailed xbox-linux-user <at> lists.sourceforge.net.

How's that the list's fault?

Overlay support for xbox linux

Hi everyone,

first thanks for all the help, I received from here. It was much
appreciated.

However, I have one more little question: is there a way to get my webcam to
output the pictures to X on the xbox? Currently (of course after loading the
module, which in this case is pwc) v4l-conf reports "no video-overlay
support" and e.g. Gnomemeeting also just reports an error, if I ignore the
error and try it out anyways (So obviously v4l-conf knows what it is telling
me).

So, my question essentially comes down to: "has anyone gotten that to work,
and if yes, could you please tell me how?" .... just before I keep trying
and it just doesn't work at all.

I can use the webcam to take some shots using the program motion on the
console and store them as jpg on the harddisk, so the webcam works, just
unfortunately not under X (which might be nice for Gnomemeeting, or such)

Oh, don't think, this would be necessary to mention, but the webcam is a
Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000, and I tried out the pwc module which is included
in the xbox-Linuxdistro, as well as the pwc from
http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc/

Thanks for any help in advance, would be really cool, if that worked.

Cheers
W.

Re: OT: power problem

Yeah, could be the case. Certainly a good idea to test a new PSU before
getting a new motherboard. To save money, (as in just in case) you can
also take a quick look at the PCB of the power button. Also, you might
want to check and see if the motherboard is properley mounted. I'm no
whiz, but it would seem there's a chance that the case is deformed
somehow and grounding inappropriate parts of the motherboard.

OT: power problem

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good hardware
forum that may be able to help me diagnose a power
problem with my v1.1 xBox?

I've had 2 motherboards which developed the same
problem; they would start automatically powering off
when initially powered on when cold.

At first, after the machine had been powered down over
night, I would power it on and it would turn off after
a couple of minutes. Gradually this timeframe would
decrease until cold power on would require multiple
attempts before the machine stayed on for more than a
fraction of a second. Having left the machine off for
a week while I was on vacation it will no longer power
on for more than the smallest fraction of a second 99%
of the time and for only about 1/2 a second the
remaining 1%.

This didn't seem to be a power supply issue as I fixed
it the first time by replacing the motherboard. A
replacement power supply made no difference to the 1st
motherboard, however, I can accept that the power
supply may be causing something on the motherboard to
burn out.

Any ideas are VERY welcome!

Thanks,

Re: Overlay support for xbox linux

Overlay, I have no idea.

But I did play with having mplayer playing webcam input to the TV without
any problem. I don't run X at all, just freevo and mplayer.

It turned out to be a really simple problem which was
causing my intermittent power down issues; My SmartXX
has a loose fitting pinheader socket which causes more
of an issue as time goes on. Eventually even the
vibration from pushing the power switch is enough to
cause a powerdown.

Hopefully it's now fixed after bending the pin header
pins outward a little.

Thanks for the ideas!
