Setting up an hp 5100C scanner on Ubuntu

Hi,

I need some easy to follow instructions on how to compile and load the
ppSCSI drivers to use my scanner.  I have xsane and have downloaded the
driver.c files but need help compiling and loading.  I am using Ubuntu
9.04 on an i86 platform.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
