[PARPORT] sample ppdev EPP read/write

	Hello,

I have trouble reading data with ppdev in EPP mode. I'd like to know
if someone has a simple test program that writes and then read some data EPP
data on the parport, so that I can test the hardware ?

Regards,
	Stef

[PARPORT] Has anyone been able to install Redhat 9 using Backpack CD-Rewriter?

Hi Folks,

I am now subscribed to this list. The archives only go to 9/3 it appears,
so
I apologize if someone has already posted info in the last couple days.

I'm trying to install RH 9, from a backpack. I found a driver disk, and it
is not working for me. One time, I actually saw the bpck6 module try to
load, but I can't remember what permutation of boot disk, driver disk, and
then the bpck6dd driver disk I used.

In any case, I'd like to know if anyone else has been successful in this,
before
I give up and revert back to RH 7.1

Perhaps I am doing something wrong, missing a step somewhere, or my HW is
broken :(

Thanks in advance, for any and all information! (And have a great day)

Oh Yeh, I'll be happy to create a web page for others, if I can get this to
work!

John,

I am not sure how much testing has been done, but there is
a new driver disc image located at the link below that you
could try.

ftp://people.redhat.com/twaugh/backpack/redhat/redhat-9/

Please email back here to the list with your results.

Re: [PARPORT] Has anyone been able to install Redhat 9 using Backpack CD-Rewrite

Hello,

Yes, that is the driver disk image I have been trying. I corresponded a
little with Tim, who was helpful, and I sent him the error I got from when
the
kernel tried to load one of the modules. I have not heard back from him,
possibly
because I was doing something wrong, missing a step somewhere, etc. I am
using the standard boot disk image, along with that driver disk from
8/20/2003.

Yesterday I tried to revert back to RH 7.1, using a 2-disk set I found,
which I believe
worked for me 2 years ago, and although it actually got into the install
process from
the CD, it hung, and I found a similiar module load error logged.

SO, at this point, I'm wondering if I have changed my parallel port setting
from what it
was 2 years ago, when I had no problems with a RH 7.1 install. I'm going to
experiment
with various settings later today, as I'm anxious to get RH (hopefully 9)
back on my
laptop.

In the past, the backpack has treated me well under LINUX, although I have
never
tried burning from LINUX. That will be my next project, as I've read that
it works.

None by me yet I'm afraid. I put it there to let other people see if
it would work. I just used the same script as the previous driver
disk (which did work). Possibly there are installer changes which I
need to keep up with.

With my kernel patch you could do so.

Markus

We're going round in circles here. I explained a few emails ago that
you can do what your kernel patch does in user-space, using
libieee1284, and so there is no need for the kernel patch.

[PARPORT] Parport boot disk for Mandrake Linux 9.1 is here

Hi all..

I just subscribed to this list.

I've created a mandrake-linux 9.1 boot disk
with the support of all of the 'external cd-r/rw'
protocols the kernel supports.

I have an OnSpec based adapter for an external ATAPI
and using that i successfully installed mandrake
linux 9.1 on my old laptop.

In the boot disk, I included the modules for:
aten, bpck, bpck6, comm, dstr, epat, epia, fit2,
fit3, friq, frpw, kbic, ktti, on20, and on26.

I dont know how many of those support 'pcd' driver.

But in the installer I only gave access to those
which can be mounted using a 'pcd'.

Until, i have a site setup...
could someone please point me to a location where I
could upload the image for downloading purpose
( using/testing ) it!??

thanks

Thank you very much Tim!

But I think having 'backpack' in the path might
mislead people!

just a doubt!

[PARPORT] newbie question

I have HP Scanjet IIP with a "scisi terminator" (parellel port)
adatpter. What do I need get scaner to be detected by sane (xsane).
Are there any modules(drivers) I need to load, and if there are,
where can I find them?
