RE: bug in rrd plugin menu behaviour

Yeah, the code is definitely wrong in webInterface.c around lines 143:

void showPluginsList(char* pluginName) {}

If you trace the handling of newPluginStatus you will see it's initially set
to 0 (disabled) and then only reset if there is an = in the processed URL.

If there is a flow that references a given plugin (and rrd has one), then it
will go into the while {} loop at 166 and end up activating/deactivating the
plugin.

The root cause (and thus the correct fix) is to split the handling of
CONST_SHOW_PLUGINS_HTML into a separate CONST_XACTIVATE_PLUGIN_HTML and then
split showPluginsList().

http.c:631:                  "
[null,'%sctivate','/" CONST_SHOW_PLUGINS_HTML "?%s=%d',null,null],\n",
http.c:669:                  "                          [null,'Describe','/"
CONST_SHOW_PLUGINS_HTML "?%s',null,null],\n"

showPluginsList() should drop the lines in the entire if at 170 (except
maybe the safe_sprintf at 187).

xactivatePluginsList() is trickier. (1) It should only accept a single
plugin name as it's argument. Not zero and not two or more. (2) After it
runs it should then invoke showPluginsList() with a null argument to present
the user with the entire (updated) list.

I just don't have the time to do the fix.

Hi

I guess Luca or Burton is the best people to answer this but of
course any other person that know why this happen is welcome to answer. :)

I have recieved a bug report about ntop on sparc where the user
have problem to run it successfully. He get a Bus Error during
startup.

See http://bugs.debian.org/372625 for the available information.

The system is running on:

uname -a
Linux babbage 2.6.16-1-sparc64-smp #2 SMP Thu May 4 12:44:37 PDT 2006
sparc64 GNU/Linux
dpkg -s libc6 | grep ^Version
Version: 2.3.6-13

There is also a gdb run avaialble on the above url.

To me it looks like there is a problem with loading external
applications, but I do not know enough of the code to tell what
can be a problem on sparc and not on other architectures.

RE: Re: Bug#372625: ntop bus error on sparc

Sadly the gdb output is useless...

/build/buildd/gdb-6.4/gdb/linux-nat.c:2125: internal-error:
linux_nat_wait: Assertion `iterate_over_lwps (running_callback,
NULL)' failed.
A problem internal to GDB has been detected,
further debugging may prove unreliable.
Quit this debugging session? (y or n) y

The message before comes from a vestigal place holder:

void initApps(void) {
  traceEvent(CONST_TRACE_INFO, "Initializing external applications");
  /* Nothing to do at the moment */
}

So I can pretty confidently say it's getting past that to the next piece:

  initApps();
  initThreads();

void initThreads(void) {
  int i;

  for(i=0; i<myGlobals.numDevices; i++) {
    createThread(&myGlobals.device[i].dequeuePacketThreadId, dequeuePacket,
(void*)i);
    traceEvent(CONST_TRACE_INFO, "THREADMGMT[t%lu]: NPA: Started thread for
network packet analyzer (%s)",
               (long)myGlobals.device[i].dequeuePacketThreadId,
               myGlobals.device[i].humanFriendlyName);
  }
...
}

I *suspect* that if you ran at -t 4 or higher (NOISY) you would NOT see the
next message (util.c):

int createThread(pthread_t *threadId,
                 void *(*__start_routine) (void *),
                 char* userParm) {
  int rc;

  rc = pthread_create(threadId, NULL, __start_routine, userParm);

  if(rc != 0)
    traceEvent(CONST_TRACE_NOISY, "THREADMGMT[t%lu]: pthread_create(), rc =
%s(%d)",
               threadId, strerror(rc), rc);
  myGlobals.numThreads++;
  return(rc);
}

And that it's dying in pthread_create(). But I have no clue how or why...
At least with -t 4 we might see the rc value...

The 64$ ? is "What has changed in the FreeBSD threading model or threading
calls"???

Bug#372625: [Ntop-dev] Re: Bug#372625: ntop bus error on sparc

Hi Satadru

I have got quick response from Burton that is one of the upstream developers
of ntop.

Unfortunatly the gdb trace did not get anything...

But he ask you to run ntop with "-t 4" or higher so if you could do
that it would be nice. See below what Burton writes for more information
about this.

Please reply directly to Burton, me and the bug number. Reply to all
would give that result.

Regards,

// Ola

ntop error when starting

hey all,

When I run ntop I receive this error -

Tue Jun 13 11:08:25 2006  CLEANUP: Freeing device eth0 (idx=0)
*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x080ddc94 ***
Aborted

I tried to search around seeing if anyone else has gotten this error but I havn't found any information. Any
help would be appretiated. Here is the complete log for ntop -

root <at> whos:/usr/local/share/ntop# ntop -i eth0 -W 7411 -P /usr/local/share/ntop
