ntop 1.3.1 remote interface api

Hi,

I'm a student doing a project involving snmp and rmon. I look at the
cpp api and found the api does not provide some of the statistics data
like number of packet drop or packets count of certain size. I was
wondering is there any way to obtain those information.

Thanks.

Sniffing in layer 3

Hi all!
I wanna use ntop in my application to get traffic
information, but I've got some problems. One of them
is that ntop in my machines DOESN'T SNIFF ALL LAYER 3
PROTOCOLS. When running ntop with "ntop -d -P... -p...
-m... -w... -n" there is nothing captured. When
viewing traffic statistics, there is only one packet
shown. When running ntop with "ip" option it can
capture data, but only IP packets. ntop can analyze
offline traffic and detect all layer 3 protocols. I
have tested both 2105 and 2.0 beta versions on Redhat
7.0/1 Linux. By the way, tcpdump and Ksnuffle is fine.

To solve this problem I wrote some scripts to run ntop
in offline mode periodically on a file being written
by tcpdump, but in this case I face some other
problems. I wonder to know if it is cleaner ways to do
it.

Hi, an unusual question

m.pilbeam <at> btinternet.com

Hello,
I am blind and use a screen reader to access my computer.
could you help with two questions.
1. Is Nop character or graphically based?
2. Can I use Ntop on an NT network, and if so, which version do I download.
Thank you for your time,
Mark

ntop is a demon that can be accessed using a normal web browser. If you
want to use a text version of ntop you should have a look at intop
(interactive ntop) that is part of the package,

ntop runs on both windows and Unix. You can compile ntop for Windows
using the code that is inside the CVS repository. If you run into
trouble please mail me so I can send you a binary.

ntop-01-09-15 version bug

Dear Sir,

We had primary testing the ntop said version and had the following bug found
in web interface :

-trafficStats.html 's Network Load's Peak and Average always the same, we
suspened the Peak value was write into Average.
-NetFlows.html icmpWatchPlugin data always zero. However the
showPlugins.html had showed that the icmpWatch was 'active'.
- If a Firewall IP ,which had many NAT IP, the ntop report group all IPs
traffic into one the IP. However this did affect a router. (e.g there was a
firewall IP 10.1.1.1 and had another NAT ip 10.1.1.2. A packet src
192.168.2.1 dst 10.1.1.2 would classified as 10.1.1.1's packet.) Then we
could not isolate 10.1.1.2's usage.
- The ntop program would crash while we click "thptStatsMatrix.html?1" after
the ntop running more than 12 hour. Our server was running in a Pentium II
300 with 128MRAM.

Eddy Lai

Network Management for non-SNMP devices

Hello:

I am starting to look at GPL Network Management Systems. Do you know of any such system that also handles serial interface (ASCII protocol) devices ?

TIA and Best Regards,

Hi Lai,

The web interface of ntop seems to be very buggy, I've tried the latest
snapshot of ntop from time to time over the last 2 years, and always I have
the same problem - after some hours of running (6 hours to 3 days) clicking
on the various stats pages of the web interface will crash ntop with a core
dump. In my case the machine has 256MB of ram and there is plenty of ram
free at the time.

I posted a detailed message to this list about it about a month ago, but I
received no replies :-(

Regards,
Simon
