NFSv3 not supported ?

Hi list, lots of head-banging on this one:
Some time ago, I asked what this message meant:
``NFS: NFSv3 not supported warning: mount version older than kernel''
since my mount was most certainly up-to-date.

Trond answered that I did not specify ``include NFSv3 client support''
when compiling the kernel.

Last night, I decide to upgrade to kernel 2.4.19, when I specifically
remembered to include NFSv3 support, when asked. However, on the next
reboot, upon mount, the same message appeared.

As I figured out just now, the message will appear (although I'm not
sure if it really means what it says) if NFS support is compiled inside
the kernel, but won't appear, if NFS support is compiled as a module
(again, I don't really know if it is indeed NFSv3, but it says it is).

Can anyone explain this ? Is NFSv3 meant to be only compiled as a module
?

Regards,
Thanos Chatziathanassiou

No. Looks like you've screwed up somewhere when you did the
compilation. Did you for edit .config by hand? If so, did you remember
to do 'make oldconfig' before compiling?

Cheers,
  Trond

rpc.mountd + rpc.nfsd

Hi,
Why is there 2 daemons for NFS progs? Is it a necessity or just to
separate things?
Would it be possible to have only one nfsd daemon that is rpc.mounts +
rpc.nfsd + ... ?

Thanks.

fh_verify

I have recently set up a lan with three New Internet Computers booting off
the network as outlined in the article (
http://www.dnalounge.com/backstage/src/kiosk ) . After many atempts I have
finally gotten ALMOST a booting client.
I have been alternating testing with SysVinit and Busybox's init. If I use
the normal init I get errors on the NFS server about fh_verify: /etc/shadow
permission failure. As soon as inittab is read. I get the same errors when I
run sulogin. If I rename the inittab out of the way I can only boot in
single mode.

If I use busybox it will boot. But I can not start X and I get the same
errors.

Any clue? Any help would be great.

Sounds like you need the
   no_root_squash
in you /etc/exports. You definately need this for exporting a root
filesystem.
