Recent failures with Mondoarchive

The last couple of weeks, Mondoarchive has been failing.  Looking at the 
logs, I thought it was a problem with temporary space, so I gave it some 
large storage (16 GB) on another partition.  However, tonight it failed, 
and it looks more like a ramdisk error, so I am not sure how to resolve 
it.  Log attached. OS is Mandriva 2010.0.

Never mind.  I figured out that I had copy an old, invalid archive 
command from .bash_history that was trying to backup to a USB instead of 
the DVD that I really wanted.  Since no USB was present, that was the 
reason for the failures.

I'm a mondorescue fan and I wrote a french doc (installation with Ubuntu RHEL 5.5, use, notes on specific problems 
(for example, what to do if you are using LVM et that the disk you use after a disaster is smaller than the first one).

Invalid Kernel & grub.conf error

Hi,

i am trying to take a mondo backup but i keep getting the error
"Invalid Kernel or Kernel not found" error. Also i get another error
"standard location for your boot loader's config
file is /boot/grub/menu.lst or /boot/grub/grub.cfg but I cannot find
it there. What is wrong with your Linux distribution?".

i am on suse 10 sp3.

i have checked /boot - it is empty but i did find grub.conf in /etc.
also i checked the fstab - the boot partition is pointing to
/dev/cciss/c0d0p1

Please suggest what should i do.

Which mondo version?
  • check
    • on RHEL, Fedora, ...
      • rpm -qa --qf "%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}-%{ARCH}\n" | egrep 'afio|buffer|mondo|mindi|glibc|busybox|newt' | sort
      • RPM verifications : rpm -Va mondo mindi busybox
    • On Ubuntu, Debian, ...
      • dpkg -p mondo (informations about the package and the dependencies).
      • dpkg -l | egrep 'afio|buffer|mondo|mindi|glibc|busybox|newt' | sort
Always test with the latest versions of mondorescue, mindi & mindi-busybox packages.
 
Also /var/log/mondoarchive.log would help the mailing list helper...

Mondo Interactive Restore error bzip2 not found

When booting from a CD with the iso file on it, we are able to select the files to restore in interactive mode.  It starts restoring, but soon crashes saying "compare-a-tarball compression program bzip2 not found".   It looks like it needs bzip2 but is not present in the iso image.
 
Using mondo-2.2.9.4-1.rhel5.x86_64.rpm.  The backup ran without a problem.
Please advise.
