Would you mind sharing your command line/script for performing your
backup in Fedora Core 6? I've been having some trouble and would
appreciate the guidance.

I downloaded the source to 2.2.3 (since that appears to include a
fix for the same problem mentioned in changeset/1253, configured,
compiled, and copied mondorescue to my USB drive and then to the system
booted from the bad Mondo rescue disk. That allowed me to restore my
system.

I recommend that version 2.2.2 be bent, shredded, and burned.
There is nothing worst than a backup program that will do everything
except restore your system.

Yes. X does not manage its temp files properly. So, when Mondo backs it up
then restores it, it gets confused. I've occasionally had this problem.

Afio handles the backing up and restoring of all files smaller than ... What
is it, 8MB? 10MB? That covers links (soft and hard), fonts, executables, and
directories. Anything larger is handled separately. I doubt afio has a bug
that affects solely X; it's possible but unlikely.

Was X running when you ran mondoarchive?

Re: ANNOUNCE: MondoRescue 2.2.3 is now available

Hello,

I try to use the latest version on my old (K)Ubuntu v5.10 aka Breezy.
I need to format this Linux to install a complete (and above all up to date) new Linux system, but I would like to make a full backup of it before scratching everything.

So, I try to use the Debian 3.1 packages. I installed Mindi-busybox, Mindi and Mondo succesfully, but when I try to run mindi I get the following message : "Unable to find mindi-busybox, etc.".
I made a quick check : mindi-busybox installs everything in /usr/lib/mindi/. Mindi binaries are in /usr/sbin/, but configuration files are in /lib/mindi/.
MINDI_LIB is defines as : /lib/mindi and busybox binary is not there (but in /usr/lib/mindi) => error message from mindi.

Is this a package error ? Do I have to use another packages ?
I currently move all mindi-busybox files to /lib/mindi/rootfs/ and I am trying to run a full mondo backup.

I will keep your informed.
Eric.

Minor/Major numbers are correct.

Yes true. So the problem is that the drive's not seen by the system for
whatever reason :-(

No, not at all :-( And that's what we need to solve.

It's not a problem as the init script of mindi will later engage it as
well as cciss1.

> In mondo-restore.log I found this, but don't know whether it's relevant.

Could you also send me that log file please. I'd like to see what it
says around the engage order.

Yep. The drive is not seen by the kernel at all.

Could you also provide the result of a dmesg just after a normal boot
of your system ?

Hello Andree,

THanks for your contributions again.
Just to be on the safe side, did you apply that patch to 2.2.2 ?
http://trac.mondorescue.org/changeset/1353

If not, you really should ! bzip2 doesn't work without that one.

Thanks for your commitment to Debian Andree, even when you have only few
minutes to dedicate to it !

Best regards,
Bruno.

On this old version, it could be a problem of arch (i386/x86_64 IIRC)

Any way you can try with a newer version ?
