Hello,

I did as you suggested, but still no change.

here is the output of the lsmod for the system I created the archive on:

lsmod | grep usb

usb_storage 62985 0

Ok, that's fine.

So it's correct on that side as it seems.

Could you then provide the log file during the restore process (change
virtual console and copy it to a USB key e.g. from /var/log/mondo-restore.log)

Changing virtual console is possible by programming the virtual keys in
the virtual media interface for ALT-F1 and ALT-F2

Nothing is planned right now for this type of problem.
First you should ensure that you have ethtool on the target restore set.
(add it to deplist.txt)

Then during restoration before launching mondorestore, use ethtool from
the boot env to manage your settings.

It should do what you want.

HTH,
Bruno.

grub error 21 after nuke restore? - Using HighPoint card RocketRaid

Hi Mondo List,

grub error 21 after nuke restore? - Using HighPoint card RocketRaid

My goal is to use mondo as my backup solution for a server using a
RocketRaid 100 card which mirrors the OS across 2 drives. After box built
it is bootable using grub installed in the MBR.

I perfomred a mondoarchive on my box:

-RedHat9
-Highpoint RocketRaid 100 card
-2 Drives Mirrored.
-using Grub.

The mondoarchive worked fine.

I performed nuke restore and mondo reports restore successful.
However, when I reboot I get the following grub error:

GRUB Lloading stage1.5.

GRUB loading,please wait
Error 21

Which -I think- means grub can't find the device to bootstrap the kernel.

I think grub which was installed in the MBR per the HighPoint RocketRaid
install instructions was stepped on?

Seems so.

restore fails sme7 (=rhel4) 2.0.9-2

hi,

I tried to backup sme7 in a vmware and from a live system to vmware.

The vmware system restored well (restore to the same vmware). The
live system (restore to vmware) did not. If you think this has todo
with restoring from hardware A to hardware B let me know and I will
try to restore to the same hardware.

Here is my bugreport.

Live system backup, resotre to vmware: when backing up it reported
errors. logfiles are attached labeled bad.

When restoring (from hardware to vmware on another machine) it sais
/dev/hda has no valid partition table
unable to find volume group main
stopping /dev/hda
formatting /dev/md1 as ext3 ok
LVM initialized OK
formatting /dev/main/swap as swap ok.
mounting device /dev/main/root
could not mount devices /dev/main/root.
then it says it cannot mount /dev/main/root, shall I abort

when backing up an sme7 in vmware and restoring to vmware again this
does not go wrong: logfiles are attached as good.
It similarily sais:
unable to find volume group main
/dev/hda has no valid partition table

OK, I tested it. It is a list of things to include.

Testing this I found that directories listed in the file
are not included recursively (with and without appended /) while
when included with -I /path/to/dir they are.
A hint to that in the manpage may also be useful.

Backup errors

Hello,

I have been using mondorescue to backup to dvd for several months now
without any problems.

Since upgrading to Centos 4.4, I now receive a few errors. The errors are
for files in /var/named/chroot/proc. I guess these files change so when I
do a differntial backup they aren't there and result in errors. (Never got
any errors before and I think these files were there in 4.3) If I exclude
the files from the backup, no errors.

My question is what, if any problems would I run into not backing these
files up and having to do a complete system restore?

TIA,

using mondoarchive via ilo

Hi Bruno,

I was not able to capture anthing form the console, but it did appear that the
kernel was looking for /dev/cdrom, shich should be /dev/scd0..the rest of the
info scrolled by too quickly to capture, but you should not have any problem
duplicating it...I an using ilo firmware 1.84 is that is of any consequence

thanks
