it apparently only happens in i586./me too now am happy with installing a 3.x kernel (did build the

nvidia kernel driver cleanly).
Only issue is that I still keep a computer where I did not
"rpm -e --nodeps linux-userspace-headers" and apparently should
be a rpm issue. Maybe if removing the epoch it would work...
$ rpm -q --provides kernel-headers
linux-userspace-headers = 1:3.1.5-1.1:2012.0
kernel-headers = 1:3.1.5-1.1:2012.0
$ urpmq --provides linux-userspace-headers

So I'm having problems getting the fglrx kernel module to load
rpm -qa | grep kernel
kernel-firmware-20110904-1-mdv2012.0.noarch
kernel-firmware-extra-20110817-1-mdv2012.0.noarch
kernel-headers-3.1.5-1.1-mdv2012.0.x86_64
kernel-desktop-devel-3.1.6-1.2-mdv2012.0.x86_64
kernel-desktop-3.1.6-1.2-mdv2012.0.x86_64
fglrx-kernel-3.1.6-1.2-desktop-8.920-2-unity2012.0.x86_64 < I created this manually
dkms status
fglrx, 8.920-2, 3.1.6-1.2-desktop, x86_64: installed-binary from 3.1.6-1.2-desktop
modprobe fglrx
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/3.1.6-1.2-desktop/dkms/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko): Invalid module format
dmesg:

Afaik this is a miss match of the installed kernel and the kernel sources/devel.

Like Jeff said to me on gmail yesterday:
Ano Novo Feliz!
that loosely translates to New Year is Happy!
