Added dmesg output of successful boot into 2.6.37.2-desktop-1mnb with
nvidia graphics working.

I cannot even boot 2.6.37 compiled from GIT tree using .config from
kernel-linus - once I press ENTER in grub menu nothing happens, I can
only press power off.

Re: mandriva 2011 alpha2

Good, I've just install it on a dedicated partition

I hope I can give some remarks here

1) The width of the window installation is still very small (I have a 22 inch screen) and for example : If I choose the step "manual partitioning", the small window showing all the partitions is not very comfortable when you have several systems.

2) The step of removing unnecessary packages is very very long and we don't know if the system is still working. Would be nice to have a informations or progress bar about this step.

3) Time Setting: Although I have selected Paris, the proposed hours for local or UTC are staggered

4) During installation, the step of the detection of my ethernet wired connection failed (I'm behind a box with dhcp standard)

5) Gtk Apps still look ugly (MCC, Firefox, thunderbird, etc)

Otherwise, since 2 hours of test, all seems very stable, smooth and faster. The replacement of "Net_applet" by NetworkManager is great

Hi all,

Mandriva 2011 alpha2 should be available on mirrors now. As I posted at http://blog.mandriva.com/en/2011/02/28/mandriva-2011-alpha2/, there are the following noticeable things there:
 - simplified installer steps
 - switch from scim do ibus

plus all the other goodies already available in cooker, such as new kernel 2.6.37.2, systemd, dracut and network-manager patches from Andrey Borzenkov, plus all the other updated packages which came on cooker during the past 2 weeks.

Have fun!

Version/release for pre-releases from GIT?

With SVN it was nice and easy - just use single ever growing number
and ensure new version will always compare newer by RPM, whether used
in V or in R field.

What people do for GIT? I can't use commit hash which is unsorted and
there is nothing obvious to put to indicate GIT reference that would
be guaranteed to be monotonically increasing.

So almost the only way seems to be add GIT commit to SPEC/changelog.
Not ideal and error prone.

So looking for experience of others. Thank you!

It's just that Qt4 theme for GTK is missing. Once installed and changed
to with gtk-chtheme, it's better.

Any chance it could be related to https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=57946?

Eugeni, now when NM is "officially" supported, drakx-net should really
take this in account. After ifcfg/wireless.d was written, it need to
check with NM that

NM_CONTROLLED == yes and device is managed (which probably happens
automatically anyway) and try to connect using just created connection
(if it could write UUID it would be much more simple)

NM_CONTROLLED == no and device is really unmanaged by NM before
attempting to ifup interface

Installing texlive + texlive-texmf takes around 1,5 minute on a dualcore
laptop with ext4 fs and rpm4 here.

I use the date of the latest commit in the checkout.

(for example kernel-firmare and kernel-firmware-extra)

It should be done by initscripts, not by drakx-net, right?

In any case, I'll try to look into it, but not within nearby future :(.
