You are right. Thank you.

I believe the problem has its origin in the hardware.

DSSI packages

Hi,

I've uploaded (to ftp.mandriva.com/incoming) some source RPM packages:

* DSSI. It is an API for audio processing plugins, particularly useful for
software synthesis plugins with user interfaces. http://dssi.sourceforge.net/

* Hexter DSSI plugin. A software synth modelling the Yamaha DX7.

* FluidSynth-DSSI. A DSSI wrapper for the FluidSynth SoundFont-playing
software synthesizer.

* Xsynth-DSSI plugin. A classic-analog (VCOs-VCF-VCA) style software
synthesizer.

These packages may be used by Rosegarden4, which is a MIDI sequencer and
notation (score) editor, included in Mandriva 2006 (main section).

The source and binary RPMS (for x86_64 only) are also here:
http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/plcl/mandriva/dssi/dssi.html

Please, can someboy comment or takeover them? Thanks.

Regards,
Pedro

Well, the bit I don't get is that there isn't actually a module called
net-pf-10.ko.gz - is it an alias for something else, or what?

Ah, yes... I'll try to reply but I am not an expert of kernel, some people
will correct me later for sure.

If I understand correctly, kernel use name alias to enable module autoloading.
When a software or another module (with proper permissions) send a call to
the device the translate it into a call over an alias and from this alias,
modprobe can find the requested module. net-pf is probable one of these
internal name.

But take what I said with caution, it is clearly a black hole to me, the only
things I am sure is my system boot and works or not :)

How amusing, I had never heard of this law before!

I really was getting tired of the CasElOVeRs discussion thread and wished it to end, so did I
unconsciously invoke Godwins Law? In reality a few weeks ago Linus used a Nazi reference with
devastating effect in the KDE vs Gnome debate and I wanted to echo Linus's expressed distaste for
ideological rather than practical rules for open source desktops.
