Well, obviously we have different perspectives on this. To put it
bluntly, the Club KB is not about 'people' but about 'Club members', to
whom we have to provide _something_ vaguely exclusive in exchange for
their hard-earned. (Although there's a Club debate about what license to
use for the KB information, and CC licenses are certainly being

I can _ask_, and no-one can stop me. I don't expect to be obeyed, though
(at least, until the revolution, at which point you two will be the
first against the wall ;>)

The Club is actually meant to be collaborative, it's not just We give
You stuff, and many people on this list are Club members (several for
free via VIP memberships).

So MANY Ways to Fail

Have any of the core Mandriva developers succeeded in installing on
genuine i586 lately?

My cooker box is K6/2-400 w/ 256M RAM. Last it was usable was when 2005
cooker cycle finished. Since then, I managed to update to current cooker
the day when the club snapshot was offered a few weeks ago, but it made
X unusable.

It's been all worse since then. I've tried to fix it with urpmi, but
that totally ceased to be usable yesterday, refusing to operate due to
some missing db functions and perl files.

So, I tried ftp installing fresh with 29 Jun alt0 and 29 Jun alt1. Both
kernel panic'd prior to completion of mdkinst.clp load (3 times).

I next managed to reinstall 2005 from my local rsync mirror. Even that
failed at first. I made a 2nd copy of it on a separate partition on the
HD in the target system. That refused because it could find no iso
files. I had to nfs install from my original rsync.

That got functioning X, but the same marginal urpmi 2005 was stuck with.
I managed to delete the 2005 sources and add cooker sources. After
switching mirrors to one without mixed versions I managed to complete
'urpmi urpmi'. That left urpmi totally unusable.

Today I found 30 Jun alt0, alt1 and alt2 versions and tried them all.
alt0 simply ceased to load before it finished. alt1 & alt2 managed to
finish loading, but immediately followed both:

Nop, Reader 7.0.0-2mdk that comes with 2005 does not have the fill-in. The 
Windows version does.
Is this a Mandriva package bug?

That's part of the deal when you use cooker, isn't it ? You should probably keep a stable mandriva version on
another partition.

Printing using gutenprint

I have noted that printing with gutenprint is far  from perfect.  I have
been printing cd labels from gimp and getting respectable images and
text using gimp-print. With the change to gutenprint I have not been
able to get anywhere near proper colours or image placement. All colours
are very washed out and adjusting from the printing panel seems to have
no effect.
I have also not been able to place the image in the proper location on
the page. The top border for instance had been set at 15 mm to get good
alignment on the cd label page. Currently, with gutenprint, the same
image gets printed down about 30 mm and will not adjust up any higher.
Can anyone else confirm these findings?

You are lucky, you at least get some output, all I get is gs showing 98%
cpu usage.

I cannot print from anything except a plain vanilla OpenOffice.
