[Bug 13366] [xfig] New: Xfig seg faults when clicking on menus

User ID: 8258, 3 bugs reported (1 fixed, 0 duplicate, 0 invalid), 10 comments.

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13366

      Distribution: Cooker
Summary: Xfig seg faults when clicking on menus
           Product: xfig
           Version: 3.2.4-6mdk
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: major
          Priority: P3
         Component: program
        AssignedTo: daouda <at> mandrakesoft.com
        ReportedBy: mslaviero <at> cs.up.ac.za

When clicking on either the "File" or "Edit" menu in xfig, it dies with a seg
fault. The "View" and "Help" menus work fine though.

The seg fault appears to come from within libXaw3d7 (see attached trace), but
since xfig is dying I've reported it here.

xfig-3.2.4-6mdk
libXaw3d7-1.5E-1mdk

A work around is to use the keyboard shortcuts.

As I said, the only thing I can think of is the X auto-detection kung fu
which I read about once and don't know much more about. My monitor is
not recognised (ddcxinfos rather dies when trying to report it...), so
if so, it wouldn't happen to me; I'm reading the X (and therefore KDE)
default from /etc/X11/Xresources, where it's set to 90. BTW, on my own
system, I override both values to 80, the correct setting for my
monitor.

I agree. They should respect the same setting, the X one, and that
should be auto-set to match the monitor wherever possible. This ought to
be possible for any display with sane ddcxinfos output, and also for any
laptop display with a good database. I don't know if Fred would want to
patch GNOME to read the X setting instead of its own, though; he's
normally quite conservative on patching.

Did you miss the start of this conversation? Olivier asked what was the
problem with starting *static* interfaces even if no cable is present.
We *already* use ifplugd for dynamic cases for the very reason you cite,
the proposal was to extend it to static ones.
