Clarification on aio sockets

Hi, http://lse.sourceforge.net/io/aio.html says that Linux sockets are 
not actually asynchronous currently, but just uses blocking behavior. 
Out of curiosity, is that page still accurate today? I.e., all those 
select-based "asynchronous IO" systems are actually performing blocking 
operations on Linux? Thanks in advance for any answers!
