The Agere 11c1:048c types are PCI soft modems.
They are not supported yet under Linux.
Agere will only begin work on these after qualifying and releasing their
code for the AMR format modems.
Given that we have been waiting for the AMR support for more than a
year, the wait will probably be comparable long. The ltmodem drives for
digital signal processing Agere chipsets definitely do not support these
soft PCI modems.

The simplest modems to maintain are the more expansive ones with
Controller Chipsets,
as they use the Open Source serial.o driver. 3Com and other companies
produce them.

Motorola and ESS modems have no direct support under Linux now.
Among the supported Winmodems, support is good for SmartLink, Intel (HaM
and 536ep), and Lucent/Agere modems with digital signal processing
Agere chipsets (not soft modems). There is support for PcTel modems,
but they seem to be the most troublesome. Their proprietary component
has not yet been compiled by a gcc=3.nn compiler. Browse the
information at: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/resources.html

The fact that we essentially hear no problems from owners of
Conexant/Rockwell since Marc Boucher supports them is also, I believe a
clear sign of reliability, compared to what was going on before. These are
known as HCF and HSF modems, and to be very cheap. See

scanModem, redhat kernel 2.4.20-13.9

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can get a linmodem driver for my Intel Corp.
82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem (rev 02) modem? Apparently it is a audio/modem
combination card. Thanks for your help!

Best,

Tony

RE: scanModem, redhat kernel 2.4.20-13.9

Tony,

The modem
Subsystem: Conexant MD56ORD V.92 MDC Modem
is supported under Linux, most likely.
Download an HSF support package through http://www.linuxant.com
Also read the section towards the end of ModemData.txt.2 on
 Compiling Properly
before trying to use the Conexnant resource

scanModem, mandrake kernel 2.4.18-6mdk & LTinstallRPM

I used both the ltmodem driver and Scanmodem utility and I still can't
find the modem. I have no idea what to do.

Specs:
Zoom Internal LT Voice Faxmodem (ZTIA001)
Chipset: Lucent 1673JV7 on com1 (/dev/ttys0 i think)

/dev/ttys0 doesn't exist, so /dev/modem doesn't work either,
but I have /dev/ttys1 and /dev/ttys3
