Well, doesn't he have a point, especially with (g)lfs?

I mean, out of 54 or so packages that are in the book, 1 is Linux, and
about 33 are GNU. Even by package size instead of number, GNU packages
are nearly 3 times bigger than Linux, and form the majority of all the
packages -- 81 mb of GNU vs. 56 mb of everything else, by my calculations.

What's so hard about "lifs"? (or lafs, lefs, lofs, lufs, loafs, loofas,
etc.)

What? You used it for target practice in your synchrotron?

I kind of like the ethnic approach, some thing like El-efs ( single
sylable + preposition)(I think)

you have a synchroton there at home? AMAZING!
which level of energy do you reach, and which particles do you accelerate?
are you using dipol-, quatropol- or higher magnets?
what is your avarage electricity bill?

For one who has taken the time to not only count the packages, but their
download and install sizes, and compared GNU to non-GNU software, you
have convinced me your are the militant type. (As if your comment about
domination didn't convince me).

I am glad you decided to use lfs-chat for this, at least. But I can save
you some time by telling you this has been brought up before and it has
always and most likely will always be shot down. But, if you just want
to think out loud, go ahead. :) Just don't get mad when people consider
it a non-issue.

Hey, don't look down on us poor home synchrotron users. :)

OK Ian, you hit me in a soft spot: robustness is my #1 criteria for good
design (I did ASIC design for five years). Also, you hadn't said it was
a very brief short.

I still say that it's very harsh and unfair to say that the electronics
of a drive "suck" and are "lousy" because they can't stand a shock that
won't happen 99.99999% of the time. I think you'll agree that Mercedes
cars are generally robust? Yet the fact they won't withstand, for
instance, lightning, doesn't make them suck IMO.
