My bet is on forgetting to select the appropiate ide controller, so it
falls back to ide-generic which doesn't support dma.

I just solved the issue compiling into kernel those VIA options that previously were compiled as modules. I guess when compiled as modules its precedence is lower than when compiled into kernel.
