FreeGLUT vs. MesaGLUT

FreeGLUT hasn't had a commit since September of 2006 and the Mesa GLUT
provides what is needed. I haven't even tried to build freeGLUT. Does
anybody still use it? Ouch, the licensing note is still correct:

# NOTICE: The OpenGL Utility Toolkit (GLUT) distribution contains source
# code published in a book titled "Programming OpenGL for the X Window
# System" (ISBN: 0-201-48359-9) published by Addison-Wesley. The
# programs and associated files contained in the distribution were
# developed by Mark J. Kilgard and are Copyright 1994, 1995, 1996 by Mark
# J. Kilgard (unless otherwise noted). The programs are not in the
# public domain, but they are freely distributable without licensing
# fees. These programs are provided without guarantee or warrantee
# expressed or implied.
#
# GLUT source included with Mesa with permission from Mark Kilgard.

While this message started out as a proposal to question FreeGLUT's
future, it almost seems irresponsible to even consider keeping MesaGLUT
in the book, especially without a warning about the license.

Go-OO

http://go-oo.org/

Anyone have appropriate opinions on Sun vs Novell for the BLFS's version
of OpenOffice? :-) I do like the licensing terms and development process
better, not to mention the extra features...in fact, I've pulled BLFS
patches from go-oo in 2.0.{0,1}. Just thought I'd throw it out there,
but it will at very least wind up in the wiki when I get to it.

OK...with libdrm-2.3.1, intel driver builds. The broken list is
otherwise the same. Probably need to drop back a version, but I am
unsure at the moment. Will look into it further a little bit later on.

For anybody interested, the rest is long. With the wget files I posted
earlier, here is the first 60 linsts of BLFS in order for a 'complete' X
setup (have not done the font setup or xterm), all built against current
LFS-SVN with little to no modification to the current book instructions
(xorg-server, Mesa, and packages that do not appear in the book

Packages to update

Hi all,

the days ago i set up a brand new LFS-SVN (based on 20081031) system and added
some packages from the BLFS book but for each of them I checked whether there
are new versions. The followin list shows how far I came:

I've tried most of these new versions (I can't check exactly right now)
with a build I did with DJ's version of lfs svn, middle of September,
gcc-4.3.1 glibc-2.7. I built a working Xorg-7.3+latest drm/mesa at the
time. Ran well, no significant clitches.

I'm just about ready to update the book as well. Let's use the Trac
system so that we don't step on one another's toes.

I thought that version of GLib was development. Please make sure. I
think the 2.18.x series is what we want.

I'll add comments on what I've used - I'm still on gcc-4.2 here,
but I doubt that gcc-4.3 will cause much difficulty for packages,
many of the patches floating around as "fixes for gcc-4.3" are
equally needed for c++ use with 4.2!

Konqueror iso8859-7,8,11 failures

After finishing my build, I check with Konqueror here:
http://smontagu.damowmow.com/encodingtest.html

Resalts:
A.
Test page for iso-8859-7 encoding
Summary: 185 codepoint(s) passed; 3 codepoint(s) failed.

B.
Test page for iso-8859-8 encoding
Summary: 152 codepoint(s) passed; 3 codepoint(s) failed.

C.
Test page for iso-8859-11 encoding
Summary: 182 codepoint(s) passed; 1 codepoint(s) failed.

Reason is that some tables in
qt-x11-free-3.3.8b/src/codecs/qtextcodec.cpp
have oudated data. Updating is very easy,
but for the convenience of the fellow blfs-users
I can send a patch if you agree.
Please also note that this bug go up to the latest qt.

Yes, I hack in some tickets. Its the best way - especially when there is a
need for discussions.

Yup, there is a ticket for that version allready.
