Some time ago I made linphone work on my XO. It was fully functional
and reliable, but the GUI is really ugly also by the standards of a
traditional desktop.

The reason why linphone is interesting at all is that the engine is well
isolated from the UI so it's easy to replace it with a Sugar UI, perhaps
written in Python, without breaking everything in the core. They have
already implemented GTK, console and test UIs.

Oh, and it also does video with H263, MPEG4, theora and H264 codecs!

Here's a quick first pass at a simple static page, please do fire off
some feedback - FWIW, I'm not too keen on how the Google treatment
clashes with SL logo, but it is a useful feature to have on a home page:

I see Karma as being much higher-level than an API or set of tools. I
hope it will eventually become a ruby-on-rails like set of conventions
for creating a learning activity w/ stubs for the lesson plan, help
menus, and quiz section. Those are some of the long term goals for
Karma.

In the short-term, we need to create some proof-of-concept animations w/
audio and client-side i18n. It would be great to have at the end of the
summer some re-usable javascript libraries for lesson plan reader,
navigation, help, etc.

FWIW, Asterisk is interesting in working with Sugar Labs:) If someone
is able to champion this, it is likely that we could turn this into a
partnership with digum.

Don't forget to call our text coloring engine to mark the word being
spoken. That's designed for the pre-literate, on the model of
Same-Language Subtitling in India.

Do we need the google logo for trademark reasons? Otherwise I would just
leave it out. It says 'Google' on the button already.

Would be nice to have a link to our bug tracker as well - maybe just
named 'Bugs'.

Of course - ideally this page would be translated :/ We can do that for
0.86 then I guess :)

Thanks,

Re: [Bugs] #645 UNSP: make sugarlabs.org the default page

Perhaps google would be interested in hosting a homepage like they do
for firefox? It would at least be faster to load.
