I don't like the '---' either, but anyway, if Ville could detail even more
the changes (or just provide a diff between this one and the previous) so
that I can see what is going on with update-alternatives. It will help if
I have to update the 1.4.2 spec, and really my only experience with
update-alternatives is from these packages, so it will help anyway.

You can easily get one at

http://www.zarb.org/horde/chora/diff.php/rpms/non-free/java-1.4.1-sun/Attic/java-1.4.1-sun.spec?sa=1&rt=jpackage&r1=1.1.2.25&r2=1.1.2.26&ty=h

Not that it's too easy to read:)

Hm, wonder why anyone hasn't yelled before, IMO they improve
readability, even with editors that do proper spec syntax highlighting.

Do a

  cvs diff -wbBu -r 1.1.2.25 -r 1.1.2.26 java-1.4.1-sun.spec

I'm sure you already meant this, but there's nothing in this release
that would have introduced a *must* to port the fixes anywhere, they
affect only Sun's 1.4.1 packages. But yes, we *should* port the fix :)

Sure, but I meant which 1.3.x version runs on RH9, Sun's 1.3.1_08?

I don't think I found any JVM broken by the RH9 upgrade at the time.
Though I honestly can't say if I tested any/all of them then.

Right now I have easy access to RH 7.3, 8.0 & RawHide systems, so I
won't vouch on anything for RH9. I *do* remember all hell broke loose
recently, but this was well past the RH9 release.

I think I'll have a go at porting the fix to Sun's latest 1.3.1, I need
it to rebuild Eclipse.

I don't know, could be. I don't know why it was there so I didn't want
to touch it. See the attached with-internal-deps.txt about what the
internal dep generator thinks about the main package's Provides: and
Requires:, and without-internal-deps.txt done with "%define
_use_internal_dependency_generator 0".

Yeah, there were some problems with incoming mail last night, everything
should work again now.

Also note that I've fiddled around with various %defines at the top of
the specfile, but that's only a consequence of the fixed linking of
alternatives.

Basically without it one or more of the subpackages wanted
libverify.so(VER_1) but we didn't provide it.
