IPMI using one IP adress

Hi.
I would like to configure the BMC to listen to the same IP address as the
host operating system.
I currently have an issue. The BMC has his own mac adress.
How could I change it?
regards

Newbie stuff

	  Hi all,

Sorry to bother with such a stupid and simple question - I just want to be
100% sure I won't mess up someone else's newly bought PowerEdge T300 (no
DRAC). I promised to install Linux on this machine and the owners didn't
really feel they wanted any of the commercially supported distributions,
rather just a plain server edition Ubuntu. The "Dell Systems Build and Update
Utility" doesn't afaics support installing other than the predefined operating
systems, Ubuntu not being one of them. So what is the (best) procedure to
install Ubuntu? The brute method "boot with install distro's CD" or something
else?

Cheers, Mika

You can consider your server as a "conventional" pc, just more reliable
and powerful ;)

Keeping this in mind you can install whatever you prefer. I'd recommend
Debian.

Good luck.
Alessandro

You can install whatever you prefer!

http://distrowatch.com/

For all my Poweredge servers I use Debian, so this is the name of the
distro that I recommend to you! :)

Have fun!

Regarding Installation of Invalidated OS (Fedora Core 8) On Dell Power Edge 2900

Hi,
I am Sriram and I am a graduate student at university of Kentucky.
We have purchased Dell Power Edge 2900 in our lab. At present no OS is installed on that machine.
I would like to install Fedora Core 8 on that machine.
I came to know that Fedora Core 8 is the invalidated OS for Power edge 2900.
I have few questions regarding this.

1) Has any one installed invalidated OS`s (Particularly Fedora Core 8) on Power Edge 2900?
2) Since my machine has no pre installed OS, Will it be possible to install Fedora core 8 in that?
3) Do we need any extra drivers to be installed before installing Fedora core 8?

It could be really helpful if any one can assist me in resolving this.

Thanks in Advance.

Thanks & Regards,
Sriram.

Fedora core 10 is already there ! Is there a reason not to install Fedora 10 ? You'll probably have
less problems with.

Being picky, those are Fedora 8 and Fedora 10. The "core" designation has
been dispensed with (yes, I know the rpms are still tagged fc8 and fc9,
it's an inconsistency within the project).

It's not necessarily so that one would have fewer problems with 10 than 8.
There have been several reported problems with Fedora 10 on some Dell
hardware that F8 ran fine on. And Fedora 8 has gdmsetup, which is missing
in 9 and 10. So if you want a login screen that doesn't offer up all the
usernames on the system, you're out of luck with F10, currently.

But since the machine has no OS on it, why not try 10, then back off to 8
if you don't like the results? I'd stay away from F9, too much crappy
stuff in it.

You're not *forced* to use the current gdm. I've seen F9 perfectly happy with
a downgraded gdm. Or you could, I assume, always use kdm/xdm/whateverdm.

I'd install either Fedora 10 or CentOS5.
