RE: afacli howto/man page?

Here's some stuff I authored a couple years back and should give you the

HOW TO REBUILD A FAILED DRIVE WITH PERC2, 2/si, 3/si, and 3/di RAID
CONTROLLERS.

First command to use before rebuilding any failed drives is the
container list command. The drive id, 
if failed, will either be a missing member, or have an exclamation mark
next to it. All drive syntax 
for SCSI ids are (bus[channel]:scsi id:lun[always zero]) The endstate
necessary for drives to rebuild 
is MISSING MEMBER (remember this).

Original Drive Rebuilding

a. Quicker method (but more difficult) :

If drive is a missing member skip the next step but if an exclamation
mark next to drive SCSI id is there:

1. Use disk remove dead_partitions (bus, id, lun) using the id of the
drive identified during the container 
list command. NEVER pull a drive that is not showing as a MISSING

PE2650 w/ Perc3DI Lockups

I know this has been discussed on the list before, but I haven't seen a
resolution, so I thought I'd throw some proverbial gasoline on the fire
and try to help get a handle on what's going on.

My 2650 locked up again a few days ago.  It appears to be the RAID
attached devices that are frozen.  The machine continues to ping fine,
but all the daemons freeze, which I'm guessing is logfile related. The
afacli commands Matt posted before returned a log similarly unhelpful to
the last log I did.

Machine vitals are below.

My current plan is to build a RAM+Cdrom based virtual root.  It'll have
its own libraries, daemons, etc. to be able to run completely
independent of the hard drives.  I'll include ssh and some other
utilities so that when the Raid card goes out to lunch again, at least
I'll have a recovery chroot available to diagnose the problem.  Of
course I'll put afacli and the related devices in the chroot.

So, I'd like some input from the list on a couple points.
1) When others have experienced this problem, was the freeze limited to
the disks?  Did other functions continue to work?  (in other words, do
you think a ram based system will continue to function through the
freeze)
2) Are there any firmware revisions I should be making to the Raid card
first?  (and if so, has it fixed the problem for others)
3) Are there other utilities other than afacli that will provide helpful
post-mortem analysis?
4) Are there commands other than "diagnostic dump text" that I should
run in afacli to give information necessary to diagnose this issue?

Thank you, Buchan for preparing the dkms package and the other 
suggestions.  Here's a step-by-step for anyone who might need it:

1. Install using "linux updatemodules" and a floppy made from 
http://plf.zarb.org/~bgmilne/dkms/mdk101-megaraid-driver.img

2. During package selection, make sure you select the following:

   dkms-2.0.0-5mdk.noarch.rpm
   dkms-minimal-2.0.0-5mdk.noarch.rpm
   kernel-2.6.8.1.12mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm
   kernel-source-2.6-2.6.8.1-12mdk.i586.rpm

   and, of course, gcc

   It is important to do this *during* package selection as the RPM 
   database is locked later on.

3. At the very last stage of the installation, just before hitting 
   "Reboot," hit <Alt>-<Ctl>-<F2> to get to a tty.

4. # cd /mnt ; chroot .

5. mount a floppy with 
http://plf.zarb.org/~bgmilne/dkms/megaraid-lsi-dkms-2.20.20-1mdk.noarch.rpm

6. # rpm2cpio <floppy>/megaraid-lsi-dkms-2.20.20-1mdk.noarch.rpm | \  
          cpio -idv

>From what I've seen it just appeared to be hard drive related (aka drive
activity lights were off on servers with a normally high disk IO load).
Network remained online (pingable at least) but all daemons were
unresponsive.

Apache tomcat !

Does anyone have a guide to install apache, tomcat and mod_jk (jakarta 
connector) on linux ?
My main problem is on the mod_jk ..
(I have a debian and i would like to install it from source so a generic 
method could be good)

Console Redireciton on PowerEdge750 with DRACIII/XT


Hi,

I have an OS'less PE750 that I would like to install RH Linux on.
I would like to be able to perform the install via console redirection 
on either the serial port 1 or via the serial port on the RAC or via the 
telnet port on the RAC.

Now the way I understand this documentation:

... is that before I can really use redirection on the RAC, I need to 
have the RH OS installed first, so that I can run "racadm" as per 
instruction under the section "Enabling the Serial/Telnet Console on the 
RAC ":

    racadm config -g cfgSerial -o cfgSerialConsoleEnable 1
    racadm config -g cfgSerial -o cfgSerialTelnetEnable 1

Thus, within the system setup / BIOS, I would first have to specify 
console redirection to be "Serial Port 1" first ... and after having 
installed the OS and racadm, I then could the RAC to get the console 
redirection via telnet.

Is my assumption correct ?
