Power.Apps 120 & PERC3/DCL

I was trying to install a newer version of linux on the box (RH 7.2), but
I'm having trouble with the installer and the raid card. When I get to the
partitions part, it says that there are no valid devices to perform the
installation on.

Documentation says (they only talk about Poweredge servers and mine is a
Power.App 120) that I need to pass parameters to the module (pci id). I
tried with all the possible combinations, but I think they only work for
1650's.

Also I'm a little bit confused about which one to use: aacraid or megaraid
driver.

I have downloaded (according to the site) the latest megaraid drivers
(megaraid-1.18a), but it's in source: *.c and *.h. Any tips on how to use it
to perform the installation?

Any help will be really appreciated.

i'm pretty sure that any external card is a AMI based one, i.e megaraid. only
the onboard ones are adaptec (aacraid).

that said, did you enter the raid bios at boot time and create appropriate
containers that you can then see when you boot the OS ? you might not have
any valid devices because the system doesn't have any configured containers.

Power management with ATX or IPMI

Hello,

Does the PowerEdge 2550 have standard ATX or IPMI connector for
power management?

Has anybody any experience using one of those connectors?

Regards.
Daniel.

2.4.9-31RH-xfs and samba 2.2.5, solution.

Thought I should share my latest two showstoppers just in case..........

Had some problerms with samba under 2.4.9-31RH and xfs.

Looks like some of the acl code has been moved around.
in samba configure edit all lines containing -lacl to -lacl -lattr and
samba will work.

Also nfs version 2 is evil ; )
mv command unusable over nfs from solaris, also created great pains
when using ms office connecting with samba over nfs.

RE: Power.Apps 120 & PERC3/DCL

Hi Jason,

You're right, it's a megaraid add-in card PERC3/DLC.
the system has been working previously (so partition, logical drives and all
are configured). If this is what you mean by "containers" there are,
aparently in place.

The boot process of the linux installer (RH 7.2) recognises the megaraid
card during the load. but at the time I get asked for the partitioning
process the following message appears:

"an error has ocurred - no valid devices were
found on which to create new filesystems.
please check your hardware for the cause of this problem"

RE: Power.Apps 120 & PERC3/DCL

Eduardo,

If you had a previous installation of an Operating System installed on this
Server, if you have not done so already, you will need to create a Raid
Array and then "Initialize" that Logical Drive Array you just created. RH
Linux should now see a valid device for you to install the Operating System
too.

Let us know if you are still having problems.

Thanks,

RE: Power.Apps 120 & PERC3/DCL

Jeremy,

Before I take the "no way back" path...

Initializacion is done trough a setup at the boot-up of the server. That
means: (?) recreate a NEW raid structure based on the stored settings (?).So
if I do that I will loose all the information on the Hard disks.

But I want to perform an upgrade (best case scenario), I need to be able to
see the previous logical structure. According to the alt-F3 console (while
booting) shows me the megaraid but never shows any HDD, but it shows the
logic drive.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Power.Apps 120 & PERC3/DCL

What messages are you getting on POST for the PERC3/DCL Raid Controller?

i.e. (1) Logical Drive Found
	(1) Logical Drive Handles by BIOS

etc...

Are booting from a CD or Floppy? Also, what mode are you installing (ex.
Text, Expert, etc.)

Re: access to the BIOS through the console

Salut Xavier,

DRAC is the answer I guess, a card you plugin to your machine. We've got
them on our 6450 boxes
