Which Kenwood rigs with S-Meter caps?

Hi, I'm new to this list and looking for some information.

Where can I find a list of Kenwood rig capabilities and CAT commands?

I need to know which rigs can return a S-Meter value and the required
data format. My SDR application is mimicing a Kenwood rig, at present
the TS-50S, but I cannot get the S-Meter capability to work. This is for
use with the Dream DRM application that has Hamlib functionality.

I do get the CAT cmd 'SM;' in my application and answer that with
'SM00015;' which should show an S9 reading on the S-Meter in Dream, but
its not happening! Perhaps the answer data format is wrong?

I can change frequency OK but would also like Dream to read the S-Meter
with the 300 msec timer. I am using vCOM as the virtual COM connection
between the two applications.

Can anyone suggest what could be the problem here?

Thanks, Helmut VK4STR

Hamlib for Kenwoods 790 and 850.

Hello to all,

this is my first post to hamlib.

I have kenwoods 790 and 850, use TLF, GMFSK, XLOG and GRIG2. To have
better result with these programs I have selected kenwood 811, with
right rigs programs do not work fine.

Is it my bad configuration or problems with software???

Best 73s to all.

Welcome there!

The CAT commands are generally found in the user manual.
Not all the rig capabilities are remote controlable, but Kenwood
protocol is not that bad in that regard.

Pretty much all Kenwood rigs can return a S-Meter value. The format
slightly changes among regular and TH models.

Have a look at the file kenwood/kenwood.c in Hamlib. You'll find the
'SM;' parsing in function kenwood_get_level, case RIG_LEVEL_STRENGTH.
The SM; answer has be 7 characters in length (including the semi-colon),
and parsing value parsing starts at offset +2. In your example,
the answer is 8 chars long, which is probably the problem.

I don't know yet. What version of Hamlib are you using? Which distribution?
"What" does not work fine with the 790 and 850 backends ?
Can you please provide us with some 'rigctl -vvvvvv' traces ?

Cheers,

I am using cvs version, but happened also with version 1.2.4 too. When I
wrote does not work fine it means that in all programs, when I choose
850 or 790, they do not work fine, i.e. during last cw contests I had
problems to qsy freq with TLF, so I choose ts-811, programs freeze with
850 or 790 and with 811 they work fine.

Setting baud-rate using Perl bindings?

Some time ago, during a shack visit, I had access to a TS-930
retro-fitted with digital boards. These rigs used to be contester's
war-horses, not that long ago, so I decided to have a play with the
'untested' Hamlib back-end.

Rig control worked well using rigctl. But my Perl logger
(http://zl2arn.ath.cx/zl2bsj/qle-0.0.3.tar.gz) didn't like it, and I
suspect the default baud rate on the CAT interface may have been
wrong.

My question is: how does one set a particular baud-rate using the Perl
application interface? I should add that the default has always
worked well for me with rigs like the FT1000MP, MKV and IC725, IC746
etc.

Wilbert, ZL2BSJ

FT-1000D hamlibs

Hello folks,
I am just learning about Linux & Ham Radio on Linux. I am currently running SuSE 10, HAMLIB 1.2.4, TLF and a GRIG. I have not been able to get the FT-1000D to work. I did notice that the ft1000d.c still had some references to the FT990.  I have tried most of the Yaesu radios with out success.
The FT1000mp does at least gets to the radio where I can do a write f, but does not give the frequency.

Any ides, help or suggestions would be great!!  I do not mind testing or helping.  If there is any thing that you want me to try, let me know, you just may need to tell me how (still pretty new to Linux)
