New developer : Peter Alfredsen (loki_val)

It's my pleasure to introduce Peter Alfredsen (loki_val) as a new
Gentoo developer. Peter has been suffering from acute uncontrolled
patching and ebuild writing for some time. We made sure there was no
treatment for this and then invited him to join us so that he can
close himself the myriad bugs he has opened. He will be primarily
working with the sound, fonts and gcc porting teams.

Peter lives in Marstal on the beautiful island of Ærø, Denmark. He
studied economics at the University of Southern Denmark, but decided
at some point that earning money was more important. He claims his
skills are limited to fixing C code, and also C++ when threatened with
a pitchfork. He will refuse to do FORTRAN for aesthetic reasons (which
means you know FORTRAN, sinner).

Please give a warm welcome to loki_val. I believe he hasn't been
kicked on irc yet. So next time you see him take a good aim, recoil
and give him your best kick. Then tell him Calchan says hi.

Denis.

New developer: Matt Fleming (mjf)

Matt "mjf" Fleming is joining our Security team and hails from Bradford,
West Yorkshire, UK. He does does a lot of low-level programing but also
gets his hands dirty with languages like Java. He is already a developer
of NetBSD so maybe he will eventually join to maintain the Gentoo/NetBSD
port. That would probably mean a huge boost to the user base. Matt is an
avid read and collector of vinyl records of any genre. I guess they
still have their uses besides being Frisbees.

Fire away,
Petteri

Hmm, Java and BSD, sounds like a good match. Most of the Java stuff
needs loving on BSD. I have been waiting for some stuff to be keyworded
for months. I might look to see if I can't sucker/talk Matt into
keywording that stuff, and some others once he gets his feet wet. Or
maybe to wet his feet :)

Yeah, and to collect vinyl these days, you really can't be specific to
any one genre, artist etc ;) Almost take what you can get times. I think
there might be one or two companies out there still making them.

I know audiophiles swear by them, and anything analog. Just fire up some
tubes (don't burn yourself) and spin some vinyl :)

I believe in the UK you all call them valve amplifiers

After months of doing the dirty work, welcome on board!

I expect to see him at the top of the bugs closed rankings in the GMN
next month. ;)

Team,

I don't want to nominate anyone who hasn't been nominated already.
I would like to address all the candidates who have or will accept
council nominations.

1. Please tell us how/if you plan to fix GLEP 39. (You may not consider
it broken)

2. As one of the first priorities will be setting policy for pending
appeals what policy do you propose ?

3. If you are not on the council already, how will you make time for
the extra work?

4. How do you think the council and trustees can work together to make
Gentoo better?
Not just the code base but the cooperative environment we all work
together in too.
Disclosure - I have a personal interest in responses as a trustee.

5. Tell us a little about yourself - the skills and experience you can
bring to the council?

Need to address better when a meeting is considered official (right now
it's not addressed at all, so anything is better), for the rest is fine
as it is.

Council handles appeals, there's no conflict of interests: who gets
voted in is already known to not be entirely impartial and/or being in
charge of other decsion-making teams.

Staying independent one of the other, with no hierarchical relationship
one way or the other.

If you know me you know what I do, if you don't, I suggest just looking
at my blog (http://blog.flameeyes.eu/) there it's all you have to know,
